Hi - I have a Wii. I have never owned any of the guitar hero or rock hero type games but with the release of guitar hero world tour I have decided to have a go.

I'll probably buy the band set that will come out in a few days - which includes drums and guitar. Now - this is quite an expensive setup. I'm wondering whether I should buy it for the Wii - or first buy a more powerful console such as PS3 or Xbox. What do you guys think?

You should buy ir for 360 or ps3 as it has better graphics and downloadable content.

The Wii version also has downloadable content. Do graphics matter particularly in this game either? Final point - hasn't the Wii version had some great reviews anyway?

From what I understand Wii version DOES support DLC (the older GH games don't). Don't know pricing but I imagine it will be the same as 360/PS3.

Never a smart move to buy a console for 1 game (unless other 360/ps3 stuff impresses you). Even worse value considering this game is peripheral based.

I have only seen videos of GH games, but I imagine the graphics are secondary in this game so the Wii version will be just as playable as the otehr versions.

(p.s. I don't own a Wii or any GH games on any platforms).

Surely though you'd need to invest in some huge SD cards to store all the DLC?

I'm biased but get a 360 (or a PS3 when Rock Band 2 comes out) as you'll have access to every recent game and DLC and a hard drive to save the DLC to.

Are they not just 2-3mb files? (I just assumed they are average quality mp3s and some button layouts in each file).

I have GH3 for the Wii and it plays just fine. Its good fun and all my mates and me have a right laugh. Buying another console for this game is crazy when it plays and looks just as good on the Wii.

Looking on the memory section of my 360, single songs seem to vary between 15mb and 40mb. Rock Band seems to be similar in size. Could add up quickly if you're into DLC.

True, I've played GH3 on the Wii and it looks crappier than on the 360 but then you only notice when you're spectating and not playing.

I think it's best to consider if you would use a 360/PS3 for things apart from rhythm games, both now have arguably substantially better games catalogues than the Wii. If not, stick to the Wii I suppose.

Actually it just occurred to me, there is videos of characters dancing etc which add to the size as well!!

Don't buy a whole PS3/Xbox360 just for one game, if you want a PS3/Xbox only for Guitar Hero then you may as well save some money and just get it for the Wii.

But... if you're wanting a PS3/Xbox360 for Guitar Hero as well as other games then definitely for that route :)

The Wii controller is crap too, star power seems impossible to get (you have to tilt it loads)

Also I strum quite hard and the strum bar kep bouncing and double strumming which is very annoying. Plus it looks crap :)

Lol at the "omg it has crap graphics!!!111!", the graphics dont matter, having played both gh3 on wii and the xbox the graphics dont factor into it, now if you had have talked about dlc and mono sound on gh3 then the xbox/ps3 win hands down.

However the new version of gh has dlc on the wii and there wont be any issues with mono sound in the new game (feel free to correct me). So if you have a wii then buy it for that as has been said before dont buy another console for one game. Think of all those poor ppl who bought a mgs4 ;) (kidding btw:P)

Thanks for all the replies. Perhaps I should add a little to my question.

I have really not played my wii very much. This has partly been because I have been completely addicted to warcraft - i seem to be breaking free of that addiction for now though.

I thought to myself - if i start investing in a games collection, should it really be on the wii? Now - that is such a big question and only one i can really answer for myself as it is all very subjective. So, my confusion kinda ended up with me asking the question at the top of this thread.

In the end you guys are right - i should really work out if im going to stick with wii or move to another console before buying anything else. Thanks and sorry if i wasted your time - but you did help me to see sense :)

rock band (1/2/both) and a 360 is what you need

don't go GH, its rubbish compared to rock band. rb has much better songs + a ton of downloadable songs the game looks more adult compared to the very cartoony characters and gfx of GH, overall rb kicks the crap out of gh in every way.

unless you like ***** songs?

I don't want to turn this in to a 360 vs PS3 discussion but... :)

360 seems to have much more and better multiplayer over the internet games - and multiplayer/internet games are what i love.

However, I keep reading about this potential for 360's to break due to heat and a design fault. Is this a pile of rubbish?

Also PS3 seems to be newer technology so i thought maybe it would make more sense to get that - or have i got that totally wrong?

I really wish I had got a 360 when they first came out - now i am worried i will buy one and it will be replaced by microsoft soon...

360s reliability issues have been nearly completely solved, don't let that be an issue. Do you know many people with either console? If so go for the one your mates have, online is good on either platform, but it's better with friends. If you have no preference either way i would suggest the 360 premium bundle, it's cheaper and overall is a slightly better games console.
