Best Media Player for H.264 and DivX/Xvid

I'd suggest MPC-HC 'Media Player Classic - Home Cinema', based on the original MPC, but includes internal format support, DXVA acceleration, among other things.

I tried the Home Cinema one already, however it wouldnt play my HD files for some reason, only standard divx etc... It showed a black screen and all i could get was sound.

Im happy so far with this KMPlayer for my video, the quality seems a lot better for the H264 and it looks cool too. :)

I am very fussy lol. By all means for probably 80% of users VLC is great, it just works. I to swore by it until i got my projector. FFDShow etc. just allow you to get the most out your sources, and thats what you need on anything bigger than a PC Monitor.

My fussiness annoys a lot of people lol, even if someone is watching something in the wrong aspect ratio it does my nut in, all the people are squashed man how can you watch that!

Nothing wrong with being fussy when better quality is feasible & with the examples you have shown above has got me thinking as that difference is worth while to me.

Moved over to KMPlayer & the control you have over things is amazing.

KMPlayer/WMP/WMC/VistaCodecPack+64-bit.ext sorted. :)

anyone got any ffdshow tweaking guides?

i know how to do all the sound side of things, to get 'surround' emulated from a stereo source in ffdshow, but not sure how to tweak the video :)

wasn't having a go at you, that's just what i'd read somewhere i thought..? with haali's being the best quality or some ffdshow build..?

After using Zoom Player for years, and having recently purchased the latest godawful v6, I tried out KM Player on Vista x64. Oh my god - keyboard controls are identical out of the box and configurable just like Zoom. It feels snappier and a lot more robust too.

I'll be temporarily switching to KM Player for a good few weeks to get a feel for the thing. Zoom has been quirky and crash prone since Vista SP1 arrived.
