Just noticed there's a form on the EA website that allows you to transfer your soldier from Battlefield 2 to Battlefield 2142 which will give you a free promotion and some other stuff.

Is it worth it? Does it keep my BF2 character in tact with all his stats etc?

Smells a lot like a plan or devious scheme to end bf2 support and keep on with 2142 i think. On topic though i can't help you with. But i do wonder which game has a larger player base at the moment.
 
it does nothing at all to your BF2 soldier you just keep the same name and get some free ranking points. You also get a small 2 next to your tag when playing in game. The original idea was to allow players to identify the more experienced players when it was new. I guess it is still working so why not.

LOL! BF2 is having a new patch at some point in the future, its been confirmed by DICE so support is not ending soon!

BF2 has a larger player base i think. Dont know why, people just seem to not want to give 2142 a cahnce because its a different and more futuristic theatre of war. :(
 
I entered my details, but now it's saying my Battlefield soldier name is already in use - I was under the impression that you get the free rank up on 2142?

Meh, you have to apply the promotion to a brand new solider on BF2. That sucks.

It was available before the release of BF2142, that's the main reason many people took advantage, because they wanted to reserve their BF2 IGN for BF2142. Obviously this far along, your BF2 IGN has probably been chosen by someone else for BF2142. The initial promotion was nothing special.
 
As people have said, the main point of it was to get a jump on your name before release. You were able to 'redeem' your promotion on the BF2142 website before the game even came out, so all you had to do was login with your BF2 username and password.

Fair enough, it's not working for my current character anyway - I wanted the BF2142 tag thing on my BF2 character :p
 
BF2142 really is a superb game, I've clocked well over 250 hrs on it over the last couple of years, which is easily the most I've ever played a game.
I loved BF2, found 2142 a real struggle for a while, but once it 'clicked' I never looked back.
Me and Toxxxic had a super couple of months trying to outdo each other with the Baur on the leaderboards, we were both top 20 in the uk at one point, he got into the top 10 I think in the end.
My accuracy was always better than his though! :p

Quick question about the Baur, is it the best gun for assault? I mostly play assault and want to spend my next unlock on a new gun :)

It was my favorite, the other one... (i forget the name) is superior up close due to a higher rate of fire, but the Baur just slaughters it at medium/long range, also at close range if you're good you can easily take on someone using the 'other' gun. I used to love the fact that scoped in semi-auto the baur was a decent match for snipers, the utter disbelief people would display when i managed to take them out from a ridiculous range with the Baur was hilarious.
 
Baur is excellent at med / long range.
Krylov (standard weapon) is excellent at all ranges.
Scar 11 is excellent on single shot but not so good on burst
Voss is called a noob gun but is also an excellent all rounder.

Your best early unlocks are the ones for your soldier as a whole i.e. sprint and stamina followed by extra grenades. I really cant stress the importance of these unlocks wenough, get them early!
 
Cool, thanks guys.

I chose grenades and defibrillator as my first two unlocks (grenades for obvious reasons, and defibrillator for the points as I'm mostly assault anyway).

I'll be getting the stamina/sprint next :)
