Will Queen Elizabeth beat Queen Victoria

Queen Elizabeth has been in the throne since 6/2/1952 (56years + change at the moment)

Queen Victoria planted her bum on the throne for 63 years.

I'm getting the felling the our Liz is hanging on to get her name in the Guiness book of records. She has another seven years to do, so by June 14th 2015 she can pick up her trophy as being the longest serving monarch.

I hope she manages it. Then we call time on the stupid monarchy lark once and for all.

I think that she doesn't want Charles to be king, I dont know the queen personally, but I dont think she was happy with the whole Diana thing, as well as the horse that he is going out with now... I think she is holding out for William to be ready...

Yea that probably makes sense. Though affairs aside, Charles is a very intelligent chap. He drums up a lot of business and money for the UK.

Even if we ignore the historical and cultural value and look just at money, why would we want to do away with something so profitable? What would we gain?

I think there are a few reasons why she's staying:

i) Why abdicate? She's in good health. There are no scandals regarding her that might adversely affect the monarchy or the country.

ii) There are scandals regarding her heir, Charles. Whatever the Queen's feelings regarding Charles (and I don't know what they are), she will put her duty to the country first.

Like Stelly, I can see the line of succession passing to William, with Charles stepping aside out of duty.

Charles dosent want to be King, he's a decent guy who is now only getting the credit he deserves for the work he does.

Yup lets lose all that tourism that our monarchy generates, lets strip ourselves of one of the most important parts of heritage and history our country has.

You sir are a baphoon, are you an immigrant or something?
Anyone who is _ENGLISH_(obviously wales, scotland, N.I. wont care as much for the crown) should be proud of the fact we still have a monarchy, they generate a lot of money for the country and at a time when there really isnt really any of our own culture left I think its vital that the monarchy stay exactly where they are.

*edit - Charles isnt half boring, I think we should just skip him, and actually skip William too, Harrys the breath of 'fresh' air
