Microwave popcorn

rofl....I've had that a few times actually...

Maybe it's due to the wattage? Yours being higher than whats said on the instructions? That or they are just crap :p

I've microwaved many bags of popcorn and I've never had the bag catch fire, so it can't happen that easily.

Maybe the thin paper is strongly heated by microwaves and becomes hot enough to catch fire? That would happen at 233C. That seems a lot, but maybe it can reach that after a while.

Sounds to me like you're not reading the instructions and sticking them in for too long considering the wattage of your microwave.

Or you're being really dense and whacking them in the oven.

Lol! sounds like your losing the war against the microwave

We made some this evening, and out battered a bit broken microwave hasnt set anything on fire :D

I've only had the bag go really black. This was on a mates real old Microwave where half of the popcorn had not popped after 2 minutes over the stated time!

I've set a bag on fire before

I get round it now by stopping it and moving the bag about and starting it again.. i think its because its a cheepo small microwave and perhaps the energy is too concentrated in the middle of the oven, rather than heating the whole product just the middle gets nuked :D

LOL

never seen it myself, bag heats up like a mutha in our 1000w though so it doesn't surprise it's happened to someone.

I don't trust microwave pop-corn any more. Commercial popcorn companies often coat their microwave popcorn bags with a chemical called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which can cause cancer. This chemical leeches out more easily at high temperature.

And fake butter in your microwave popcorn contains a chemical called diacetyl. There is compelling scientific evidence linking occupational exposure to diacetyl to bronchiolitis obliterans, a debilitating and sometimes fatal lung disease.

In one case a worker from a microwave pop-corn factory actually fell terminally ill because of contact with this chemical.

I remember those "frying pan" ones we used to get, we always ended up with half the popcorn a fine shade between dark and black.

As for microwave popcorn, never had a problem with the bag setting on fire.
