Bought FarCry2 on day of release along with DeadSpace and Fable 2. Initially as I had those, FC2 compared less favourably and was side lined. It is repetitive and like people have mentioned the respawn along with the need to travel from one end of the map to the other almost every mission can get a little tiring.
However. The combat model is bang on. the selection of weapons is excellent. The graphics are really nice. And the open world = varied approach combat is excuted very well.
I would say the combat scenes are comparable to COD4 when they occur. The level of destruction you can cause it fantastic and the open world allows lots of different approches to combat. Initially I was using a sniper rifle, however now I prefer getting up close and personal with a shotgun. However when I get the new sniper rifle I guess I will go back to that. Prefer the stealthy approach? Then get the camo gear, a silenced smg and go in at night. Prefer to be noticed - get a shot gun and flame thrower and go in midday. Your choice.
I would not want this on the consoles as it can be ruddy hard - PC = quick saves. Having to repeat the same bits over again because it went wrong would be a pain in the rear. The buddy system is null and void because of the quick saves - I have never had my buddy pull me out of a fight - if it goes wrong I hit the last save. The buddy system would go some way to eleviating this on consoles. However on PC - quick save like it is going out of fashion - makes the game easier to bare.
At the end of the day if you like shooters you will like this - get it, play it in short bursts and you will love it.
