As the title suggests - are there any real "classic" movies you've never bothered watching, or just plain hated?

I watched "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" for the first time ever today and found it a mite underwhelming.

Just starting to watch "Road House" with Patrick Swayze now....supposedly his best movie, and had only seen "Point Break" for the first time a couple of weeks ago - personally I found it very lacking in action for an "action" movie.

Anyone else?

only recently watched American history x and nil by mouth
really enjoyed both

i liked point break when it came out, much preferred it too roadhouse

Both, good m8. Not great, but worth watching. They're a tad weird as well, so you have to stick with them. :p

I've never seen any of the Godfathers, but I think that's my worst offence worthy of mentioning here.

This is the reason I signed up to DVD rental (I'm with Tesco). I am catching up on the classics - basically working my way through the IMDB Top 250. Some of the older films are just superb!

I don't remember seeing Roadhouse on that list though!

None of those are really what you would consider "Classics".

The Third Man, Cassablanca, Gone with the Wind, Godfather, Apocolypse Now, films like these are Classics.

Forgive me father for I have sinned I've never seen any of the Godfather films; I've just never had the urge even though I've really enjoyed, Goodfellas, Casino, Once Upon a Time...

I've also never seen Deliverance all the way though. I just get bored.

I'm sorry.

Shawshank Redemption....couldn't stand it. And Roadhouse isn't Swayze's best movie, Red Dawn was. Now there's a classic. Wolverines!

Until recently the most deaths per minute on film and the first 18 certificate I watched. Have you watched it again recently? If not then I'd advise you not to, it's better to remember it how you think it was than how it actually is.

Road House? ...a classic? :D

Is Patrick Swayze even an actor?

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a fantastic film, never heard it described as underwhelming before.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is meant to be really good, not seen that yet.

I'm ignorant of most black and white classics such as Citizen Kane.

Casablanca and 12 Angry Men are definitely worth the watch if you haven't already.

I don't think I could disagree with you more. Shawshank Redemption is almost certainly the best film of the past 20 years and one of the best ever. Red Dawn is unmitigated rubbish, especially compared to the opus that is Roadhouse. :p

To my shame I've not watched The Godfather, Once Upon A Time In America, Casino, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, Deliverance, The Deer Hunter and several more that I can't remember at the moment. The common link is that almost every film is over two hours long and most are nearer to three which is my major problem, finding a block of uninterrupted time when I want to watch them and for me to be in the mood to concentrate enough to do them justice.

I'm still yet to see things such as Taxi Driver and Chinatown. I'm very hit and miss on the old black and white films too. I've seem some, but if you were to pick a classic at random, the chances are I haven't see it. Casablanca for example is one I haven't seen, nor Citizen Kane, The Manchurian Candidate (old one), Seven Samurai, or To Kill A Mocking Bird (although I have read the book). I have however, seen things such as Dr. Stangelove, and Wzard of Oz, etc.

I'm quite weak on most Westerns too. :(

I know a lot of people rave on about it, but I could never get into the Graduate when I saw it, nor American Psycho.

Interestingly, I think I've only seen probably 60-70% of the films on this list.

Recently decided that I should see some of the top 100 ones that i've never seen, Shawshank was on of them and I thought it was excellent, I now have One flew over the cookoo nest to watch, shindlers list and the Godfather films.

The older stuff black and stuff just doesn't interest me at all though !

Wash your mouth out!

As mentioned above 12 Angry Men is a superb film - doesn't matter that it is black and white.

Also try Dr Stangelove and M.
