FUMING @ Morrisons.... What the hell is this all about?

Saying that my gf didn't have ID once when she was asked whilst buying a bottle of wine, and I stepped in and bought it for her - something the cashier should have prevented. So they aren't all bad.
I was about to say the same, and it was in morrisons actually.
dont see anything wrong with walking out if they're refusing to serve you because you have a 5 yo child with you though, the fault lies entirely on them, you're choosing not to shop there, the fact that they've already scanned your shopping is irrelevant.

I'm all for "if you've not done anythign wrong, then why should the rules bother you", but asking for ID for the child was pretty stupid, tbh. She could have just looked at your shopping on the conveyor and said "we cant serve you that alcohol with the child present", rather than ask you for ID, then ask the child for ID as if he would even understand what that meant. Seems she went through the whole charade pointlessly.

Perhaps the rule does have merit, but you could still use common sense to practice it.

So you arn't allowed to buy alcohol if you have a child with you? LOL

you should have pointed out the other 100 people in the store with kids.

On a semi related note I got refused Rizla rolling papers from the Spar for not having ID. I am 23 and easily look 21 but apparently I must look 25.

I gave the guy a right load of abuse, he was almost crying when I left. Muahaha. Left all my stuff on the counter also when there was a massive queue and am now boycotting the spar. My loss probably but meh.

Wow you're a big man

Seriously, congrats, you probably ruined a guy’s day when he was simply doing his job. I really don't understand why people get so upset at things like this, you don't have a right to walk into a shop and simply buy anything, it’s at the shops discretion. You obviously don't look that old, so carry your ID, it's not exactly hard to have your driving licence in your wallet now is it?

OP, seems like a silly rule but in all honesty I would probably just have put the beer back and gone elsewhere. No need to kick up a fuss, they are simply implementing policy which has been issued from above. If you have a grievance with their policy then write to the policy makers (i.e. head office).

I don't understand the problem I bought 2 bottles of tequila with my son in the basket from morrisons before.

They did give me a funny look to which I said "Its time to make a man out of him" - He's 2 btw but looks a lot younger

It sounds like they were just being daft.

Incidentally i bought a crate at Somerfield a few months ago and was asked for ID. I said i didn't have any, and was pretty embarrassed about it (im 24), then she said "You're not from trading standards are you?" and laughed, before scanning it.

They lost their alcohol licence about 3 weeks later. you couldnt make this stuff up.

I can't buy any alcoholic products without getting ID'd and I'm 24

But to be fair, you look about 12.

I'd love to see a 5 year old get ID'd
"And how about you young man, do you have any proof of your age?"
"Will a Dennis the Menace Fan Club membership card be ok?"

1st step towards mandatory id cards all this you know

Hahaha, wasnt the first step the proposal of the idea about 5 years ago.....

This is more the first bit of evidence we ALL need ID cards (especially the 5 year old) just so it can outline our intentions for what we are doing.... Then we will need to flash the card to be allowed into the shop at-all "incase me might steal something..."

Humm anyway i love that reality and commonsence are taking more staps away from each other (been a theme of my life recently)

But isn't this rule about preventing adults buying alcohol for minors?

Then surely why would the minor wants alcohol go in with the Adult to get it when he/she knows that her presence being there will prevent the transaction? The minor will just stay outside and wait and get the alcohol after it's been purchased.

The rule does nothing stopping 18 year olds buying alcohol for ALL their friends, they will just wait in the car while one of the friend in the group goes in and stock up. Therefore this is frankly absurd, all it does is cause hassle for parents with a child.

i came to the conclusion that morrisons management are idiots along time ago

why the hell do they always ask me "are you over 25"

if i say "yes" they ID me and if i say "no im 25" they ID me

surely the 25 thing is meant to be if i look under 25 then ask me for ID.

not to ask me if im bloody 25 every single time i go in there

ive seen 40yr old women get asked it and refused a bottle of wine. then the fuss they make just stalls the que. ARGHHH.

should have pulled the manager to one side and quietly said "listen, if I don't get the beer the kid gets aggressive ok" then start to panic and freak out a little. "His fists!!! NOT AGAIN!!"
:p
These kind of places are run by retards and have no idea what common sense might be!!

I guess the rule is there, and through the dappy bints lack of ingenuity/common sense/ fear of reprimand she applies it liberally to EVERYONE.

A lot of people do this, we call them idiots generally.

i'm not surprised anymore, we have a nation of idiots, or those who fear litigation, both is the general publics fault.

Can't serve you alcohol with your 5 year old cousin? typical forum response = jab her in the ovaries and snap the managers neck with a chuck norris like roundhouse...

Just wait until someone leaves there kid in the reception area or in the toilet while they pay for beer. Kid gets stolen.

Yeah much better than a 25 year old buying a beer for himself.

What a crock, glad you walked out and left them with all the shopping at the till, well done!

I wouldnt mind but the whole time i was at the checkout the 5 year old kid was crying out " i want my mummy ".... and the cashier had no problem with me buying rope, a bannana and candles, they were more interested in the kid having no I.D.

JOKE... but its ridiculous, and the whole time it was going on my little cousen was oblivious to the fact i wasnt get served for alcohol because of him, he was more interested in his chocolate cake lol.

very similar thing happened to me the other day in tescos, the stupid thing was the self service machine must have had a blow out, because only 2 out of 3 of the items of alcohol got scanned, when she refused to serve me because i was with this girl, she took 2 out and left the other one in lol, i thought well im not telling you.

I said to her common sense really isnt prevailing here is it, im going to now go get in my car, and drive to your competitor (sainsburys) get out, leave her in the car and go get some alcohol, stupid!

I thought you weren't allowed to sell alcohol in shops unless over 18, my brother has to get a supervisor to do the transaction for him, he's 16 and works in Sainsburys.

its hideous seriously stupid all in all, asda you gotta look 25+ now i think, but with a 5 year old come on !!!! its all getting way to pc /stupidnow

I thought you weren't allowed to sell alcohol in shops unless over 18, my brother has to get a supervisor to do the transaction for him, he's 16 and works in Sainsburys.

yeah its the same for games/movies etc

i once got asked if i was 16 in wh smiths when trying to buy pcgamer lol, i had a wedding ring on aswell which the woman at the counter must have noticed
