FUMING @ Morrisons.... What the hell is this all about?

Trading standards can and do send people in to test checkout workers though which will lead to a fine if they sell alcohol to them.

Yea if they are selling alcohol to them if they are underage, but I'm talking about people at my age and older being refused alcohol purely because cahsiers/managers are terrified of the over the top PC policy that has been implemented. They under age chavtastic nobs still get their precious white lightning every Friday night, yet I'm stuck without a few bottles of Hobgoblin if I fancied grabbing some while out doing some shopping, unless I get my 40 odd year old mother to go in for me  (at the age of 22 it's ludicrus having to ask your mother to do such things)

This thread is hilarious:p

When both me and my girlfriend got ID'd for me buying some shopping with a 4 pack of beers in i asked her "when is someone going to take this too far and ID a child who is with her mother?"

Evidently its happening and is just stupid. The entire process is illogical and insulting people's intelligence as it suggests that supermarket workers aren't bright enough to make a decision and are nothing more than procedural robots!

Tbh in that situation I'd have been so annoyed and confused that I would have calmly just left the shopping and gone just as the OP did. I'd have done this for two reasons

1. The clerk on the till is either a bit dim (i doubt dim enough) or just an **** to not realise that the situation is ludicrous and so I'd want to annoy them. (I dont buy it being supermarket policy to ID EVERYone)

2. I'd be annoyed, so it'd make me feel better:)

I may have wasted time but its worth the trade off.

I suppose this entire process of IDing everyone who buys alcohol is promoting a separate shop just for alcohol. Surely this means that people are more likely to buy more alcohol as they will go for what they want and probably stock up while they're there. Granted they'll do less beer runs but for a lot of people if something is there ready for them its easier to use and more likely to get used.

Put yourself in her position and imagine you are the checkout guy. Shops has a policy on selling booze whther you agree with it or not. Shop directors may at any time decide to send 20 year old looking plain clothes trick shoppers, with 5 year old child for additional confusion, through checkout. If the checkout guy deviates from the policy in any way they lose their job.

But at Morrisons there is no policy for not serving an adult alcohol if they are with a 5 year old child.
Staff are that worried about losing their jobs that they make mistakes.

I really can't understand how so many people miss the point, its got nothing to do with not serving underage people, its got nothing to do with ID'ing legal age people, its only when they refuse to sell alcohol to legal age people WITH ID for some ridiculous reason.

Its not against the law and people could never get in trouble for doing so, if its a policy its beyond ridiculous and should be stopped and trading standards people won't catch them out, if they are under age they won't get served.

It doesn't seem hard to me, ID someone you aren't sure of, or ID everyone, but when they have ID and are the right age, sell them the damn alcohol surely? Is it that complicated?

I've had this twice at Asda's just so people know (burgh heath) one time with my sister and her boyfriend who are 22 they were buying a bottle of drink and wine i just helped pack. They asked me for i.d didnt have any so they refused the drink her boyfriend went back in and got it.

Then another time with my sister and her friend who is a police woman i bought my stuff then her friend bought some drink refused again because i didnt have any I.D even though i didnt help pack just because i was with her stupid legislations and then asked if she could go back in on her own and get it..answer was no... was so quiet and late couldnt go back in to buy drink

Completely ridiculous, i would have done the same as you mate. Unfortunately this is a new regulation that most supermarkets are doing now, the same happened to me when i was buying some alcohol with my GF (yes i am over 18 and so is she) in Tesco and got to the till to this complete idiot and ID'd me for my alcohol and then he wanted to ID my GF too and she did not have any ID with her at the time because back then she did not have her driving licence as she has only just decided to start driving lessons. Anyway he tried to ID her as well even though i stated the alcohol was solely just for me but he still refused to serve me the alcohol because my GF was with me. Total B******* if you ask me.

Morrison's are seriously anal.

They were IDing a bunch of late 30 year olds the other day as they looked 'younger than 25'

It's a pain in the arse.

There are some who just don't read the thread and why they do this.
It is not Morrisons, it is the rules set by the authorities including Trading Standards, the Police and others.
Undercover officers are sent out all the time to try and trap them.

25 years old is the guideline now?
It doesn't happen in Co-op ASDA or Tesco's and it's a pain in the arse, authorities or not. Morrisons are notable for it.

Yes, good job the girl on the checkout asked the 5 year old for ID, otherwise the child would have read her her rights and sent her down 'the nick' after introducing himself as DCI Blogs.
