Ok, so this is a little different to the zombie survival thread.

So here's the scenario:
Imagine being the only survivor of a disease that kills every member of your family, that kills lovers, strangers, friends, nearly everyone you've ever met.

You are among the lonely few to live and now you must start over in a strange new world where everything that was once safe and familiar is now strange and dangerous.

Set in the present day, Survivors focuses on the world in the aftermath of a devastating virus which wipes out most of the world's population. What would we do? How would any of us cope in a brave new world where all traditional 21st Century comforts - electricity, clean running water, advanced technology - have disappeared?
So what would be the first things you do when you realise that everything really has hit the fan and there is no longer a society as we know it.

My ideas:
Under normal circumstances the first things to be thinking about would be food, water and shelter. As these aren't really an issue at this point there is a bigger concern. As there is no law and order my first concern would be to ensure safety from other potential survivors. I know it sounds very American, but I would look for weapons & ammunition to create a munitions dump. Not only does this secure my safety but also my sense of law and order. Any new followers could be open to rape, attack and looting. When things go tribal, I want to be prepared.

I would then clear out some sort of main base. Something fairly self sustaining would be important. Farmland, fresh water storage and space to stockpile food is crucial as well as the ability to be defended. Generators and petrol stockpiles are also important.

Secondly, when I have secured an area that will be also to accomodate new survivors that I come to meet, I need to advertise that fact. An AM transmitter would be essential (luckily these are easily to build) and a repeating message would be played telling people to meet at a designated area. Trusted indiviuals would recieve weapons and become part of my security force to protect my new settlement.

We would also look at buring the dead and recording what has happened. It'll be very important for future research into the virus.

As things grow I would look at expanding into restarting a civilisation. That'll require knowledge, infrastucure and some sort of consitution.

I must admit, I'm one of the few people who would actually like to be put in a situation like that, bizzare as it is. :p

Any ideas about what you would do?

learn to drive a heavy goods truck and then knock off the local solider of fortune shop, that takes care of fresh water for the rest of my life time + lots of other good gear, then rob as much tinned food as i can fit in the truck.

Ideally try and find some weapons in a police station or from the soldiers who died trying to control the disease, tbh guns would be easy to find as long as this didn't happen in a few hours, as if it did i'd have to find the nearest army base.

This on the beeb? Just waiting for it to make an appearance on iPlayer :p

I'm with Burnsey on this one. I think it would be very interesting and exciting. Can see it happening within our lifetime too ;)

i'd LOVE that to happen here - this island could easily become self sufficient.

I've got my "beginners guide to virus creating" kit

Lol, you wink as if you know something we don't...

I was hoping the virus wouldn't reach this far.
Or only kill the *****

Or everyone but me and one of 4 nice girls left on the island

Or everyone but me and the 4 girls

tbh I'd say now we;ve reached the point where no one thing will kill us all that doesn't entrierly destroy the planet/make it completely unsuitable.

Due to large military systems, some people will survive nuclear war, and plague, even a relatively large meteor strike.
