Keeping Your Motor Perfect

Pfft, I just know where all the bits of my car which I can't see are. Loved muffin's face when I turned round at the hire spot, I know I only left a cm or 2.

OT:
Buying stuff So old I have to put up with the odd blemish, my car comes across very well in photos, and it's tidy enough in person. But get it up on a lift and you seen so that the lower portion of the doors are quite bad. The side skirts need removing and the clips replaced too.

As for keeping it that way, I park on the last row at ASDA, but next to the path running down the middle, I get into the shop just as quickly as those who search for a spot closer, and the people who park back there are more patient, not the type who smash doors into your car.

Dont lie that rear bumper was terrible on your car :D

I was going to mention the bumper in that post, forgot part way though talking about the side skirts.

The result of it being rear-ended at some point, also the rear window seems to have been fitted when the boot-lid was off the car, it's not exactly centred.

Edit:
Your exhausts are squint. :p

I find the wiper situation highly amusing. Typical Italian design. They have actually tried, as there is a recess in the spoiler, it's just not big enough.

Keeping away from family type cars in car parks seems to be the order of the day for me. I cringe when I see one of these at a car park... women and kids smacking doors into the car next door :( I wish some parents would teach their children to be more careful - but then they seem to be just as ignorant themselves.

I gave up trying to keep my paintwork perfect after it got keyed. A mate got it sorted at his bodyshop but since then I've not been bothered that much. I'm not looking forward to the paranoia associated with owning something decent next year though!

What are you looking at getting?

Not really sure - I've been considering Elise 111R, S2000, Z4 and some others but I'm leaning towards a Boxster S at the moment. Knowing me I'll change my mind to something wildly different when the time comes... so plans are either to move further away from London before buying it (depends on whether the property market looks like it's hit the bottom) or to hire a garage just up the road. :)

Oh, I forgot to mention that I never park near clapped out old bangers invariably driven by old codgers. On several occasions, I've seen coffin dodgers parallel park in, smack the car behind, pull forward, smack the one in front, then pull back a little to leave a gap

Wasnt there a lad here that used that very same method of parking:p

A 111R still looks good when dirty. An S2000, Z4 or Boxster won't :p

Surely that depends on the paintwork.. most forms of silver look fine even when filthy (unless you're just talking about the general "presence") :) I still need to test drive a Lotus as I'm not sure I'll be comfortable driving it what with being lanky. Also, I'm a bit worried that there will be a huge disparity between power delivery and my driving ability :D

Some woman thought I opened the passenger door on the car I was being driven in yesterday onto her precious KA. What she failed to realise was that I put my hand between the 2 doors so it took the impact.

But I touched her beloved thing so she had a good peer and scowl at me until I put her in her place.

God I felt Alpha, especially after beating my chest :D

I've noticed such a difference since not using public car parks frequently, while at uni I used one every day and picked up so many dents in the doors from morons letting their door swing open... since getting my current car I very rarely have to use public car parks (only my works private car park, but people are always very careful as if you hit a car with your door you'd most likely be seen by one of the 2500 people in the building, or CCTV cameras) and the panels are totally perfect, as well as the rest of the car. Only thing that lets it down is the odd stone chip on the front, can't be helped with a daily 50 mile commute though unfortunately

I remember stopping at a Supermarket a while back and parking my car well out of the way of EVERYONE, loads of spaces around it, loads of spaces much closer to the door so I expected it to be safe. As I walked back to my car a woman in a people carrier full of kids was reversing up next to it! I got in and drove off before the doors opened but I was simply astonised that she chose that space as it was the WORST space EVER and there were loads of family loading bays free she could have parked in right next to the door. I was in the spaces 15 miles from the door!

The mentality of some people was demonstrated to me some years back when parked in a McDonalds car park having my burger while listening to the radio. A woman pulls into the space next to me, no problem I thought. She the proceeds to unload kids while happily banging to door against the side of my car, not once, but many times. When I protest I get "can't you see I have my hands full its only a car" as her justification followed by a huff and lots of expletives. I felt like stamping on her throat but instead I drove off and chuntered.

If they had a brain...

Woman did that to me in a supermarket carpark, she just got out and opened the door into mine leaving a nice dent, i got out and was very very close to kicking one of her car doors in, she couldn't care less about what she had done.

She then walked off, if i was a horrid person i would have keyed her car or worse.

People like this **** me off cause they have no respect and what made it worse is i'd parked out of the way to stop this kind of stuff in the first place, tbh cause i've got no claims protection and don't have to pay an excess i should have taken her insurance details down and made her pay.
