Multivitamins. Do you take them?

I take some multivitamins at the moment, I tend to forget about taking anything for years at a time and then remember to start again. It probably doesn't make any difference but I doubt it causes me any harm either so I figure I might as well.

I take Centrum A-Z. I realise that "scientifically" they probably don't do anything, but while I'm taking them I notice things like my finger nails growing quicker, so it's obviously doing something.

Don't bother getting an Omega 3-6-9 pills. You generally get sufficient 6 and 9 in your diet and if you take more your body won't be able to absorb the Omega 3 it needs, so jsut get the ones that are high in 3.

Thanks. :)

I'll take a look into it.

I take multivitamins and iron when I remember to.

I took glucosamine and creatine when I was weight training and will probably resume doing so when I get back into it within the next month hopefully.

These are apparently about the only ones that 'work'.

My mum was prescribed glucosamine and chondroitin iirc. Could just be placebo though.

I take zinc supplements too.

How long has she been taking them? "Placebo" effects aren't indefinite.

I take 1x Centrum "Performance" & 1x Schiff Joint Plus (Chondroitin & Glucosamine) per day. I also take Echinacea tablets if everyone around me is getting a cold!

I actually started a thread over on speaker's the other day, but out of curiosity, could i ask people why they chose to take vitamin supplements, herbal remedies and the like?

Most multivitamins do not contain enough of each and therefore have little to no effect on your body.

I take six supplements a day, each individual tablets for a full healthy dose of each :) I have to take them due to a medical condition which has crippled my immune system.

I usually just bu a cheap multivitamin from boots or wherever and have one a day. Well, usually because I have forgot the past week or so :p:rolleyes:

I did feel better when taking them though, but I wouldn't say it is a massive difference, but then I tend to eat reasonably well anyways - several portions of fruit/veg a day, that type of thing.

I looked into this, check the mg on the back.

I found that if I bought separate ones of everything, they contained exactly the same amount as a combined multi-vitamin. Given all the sugar and carp in the tablets, it is obviously better to take as few as possible. So, you (possibly) fail unless you have super tablets :p

Nice edit :p

I didn't say that all multivitamins are like that. They certainly didn’t do me any good, that’s why I take individual tablets which have had a noticeable, positive effect on me. One reason I was given for this, by several consultants, was that most multivitamins do not contain enough of each to have an effect.

But everyone is different of course. So I don’t fail at all really. My information was provided by what I assumed to be (with good reason) reliable sources :)

Look on the packets! I bet you still only get 100% "RDA"

e.g. in my multivitamins I get 15mg zinc, 14mg iron 100mg vit c.
In my zinc tablets, I get.... 15mg zinc and in my vit c tablets 100mg vit c, surprise surprise I get 14mg iron too in my iron tablets...

I.e. they're the same (in these tablets).
