Survivors

LOL people are complaining because 2 people just happened to be driving on the same road at the same time? Puhlease sister!

Oh the writers took a number of liberties. Like:-
- The majority of the UK seemed to die on one night? Hmmm... People would have caught it over a couple of weeks, so you have people weeks apart with the condition.
- In the original series the survivors suffered from the virus, but 'survived' it. In the new one, some suffered, some didn't seem to catch it at all?
- Not a single survivors seemed bothered about relatives?

It took a good few episodes of the original series for the characters to meet up, but by the end of the first episode of the new series we already have our group.

The next episode looks like a direct remake of one of the originals, so will be interesting to see what it's like.

Not all the original cast caught the virus. Remember Paul only caught it and died in series 2 after going into town. I don't believe Jenny or Greg, or John and Lizzie for that matter actually had it, although they carried the virus as they transferred to those religious men up the hill.

It's a remake of the series, but far quicker, it doesn't follow the book in the same way the original doesn't.

I still can't believe they killed Jenny:( She was the only cast member to be in all 3 series!

Maybe Im wrong on this but wouldnt people surviving this epidemic event be more inclined to be cheerful about meeting other survivors? From watching episode 1 yesterday, I was left with the impression of the opposite happening with all of them moaning against each other when they meet. Besides, given the number of people left, necessities shouldnt exactly be scarce (as yet) to give them a cause for fighting one another. Is this justified (as possibly being part of human nature) or screenwritters simply tried to make the scripts more colourfull?

The potential psycological effects of such a situation are far reaching and not inherently obvious. After a relatively short time trying to digest what is going on, normal human interaction could be far from normal.

Again, it's easy to analyse the situation from here, but people may not be thinking rationally or it could be an outlet for their anger as their love ones have only just died.

i think burnsy is crazy about zombies and being survivor

I just think it could be a challenging, yet very exciting situation to be in. Maybe it's my power complex coming into play, but the ability to have so much control over your destiny is a very interesting thought.

I think you're wrong there... I think (in the original) all the 'Survivors' had the disease, but just survived it.

If you recall 'Paul' caught typhoid or something from a visit to a town for supplies. It had nothing to do with the flu virus.

The survivors having the disease, but surviving it, was of particular importance as in one episode they met some survivors who had been out of touch with people through the whole affair. Withing a week, they were dead, killed by the virus the 'Survivors' had kindly brought to them.

From then on, you often heard them asking any new people they met, 'have you had the disease,' obviously not keen to kill anymore people who had not yet come into contact with it.

lol - some of the replies in this thread make me glad majority of you are allowed no where near a production set!!

Can just imagine the drama being that realistic that nothing of substantial interest ever happens. You guys would just have people driving around until they died.

Only a minor issue - But it was a weak element of writing. I suspect the two of us could drive around in an area of several miles and never even see each other, yet alone nearly hit each other...

I thought the episode was generally OK, with my only major issue benig how seemingly most people died over one night...

ps: Also, Tom Price was intelligent enough to realise a bag full of cash was worthless... He wouldn't have bothered lugging it around.

In the programme I think they say 90% of people died worldwide. That still leaves about 6million in the UK - if anything they should have had more accidents.

BTW - I thought for a while the producers had gotten really clever...

The original series didn't have any incidental music during episodes! Although last nights episode has music before everyone died, I thought they'd cleverly stopped it after that... But they hadn't.

Sort of a shame... I think it can work better without the music.

Anya mentioned it I think... But clearly 1/10 people aren't still alive.

In the original series it was seemingly over 99% that had died. And this seems to be the case in the new series given how few people are around...

Straw Man syndrome at its best :)

How has any comment on this thread suggested 'nothing of substantial interest should ever happen'

Find a weapon. Gun shop would be a start.
Long walk to my nearest though! Hopefully would be able to find a working car.
Once armed and hopefully armoured as well, find water and food for short term.
Find shelter that I feel could sustain me for mid term.
Fortify the position, retrieve food and water for the mid term.
Start looking for a fresh water source.
Find a library, get as much info as needed to farm sustainable food source.

Once a base is established, start looking for others.
