***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

Dead Air finale is worse for ammo consumption, and depending on where you battle the horde + millions of boss horde + tanks, you have a long way to run for ammo to be smoker bait :p

After playing this all weekend, i've come to the conclusion that what L4D really needs is the following:

1) More weapon variety (I could have sworn at the end of the demo it said there were more weapons in the full release... i've not seen any...).

There reallyneeds to be some good mele weapons in there as well.

2) Less ammo dumps/no ammo dumps. Yup you read that right, there is too much ammo in this game, even on Advanced I very very rarely run out of ammo. I want to be fighting for my survival only for my weapon to click dry and have to fall back to running around screaming blasting zombies with pistols. It'd add a bit more tension to the game.

3) Weapon pickups scattered through the levels as well as in safehouses, I want to pick a shotty up, it only have say 24 rounds, I can either use that and then fall back to pistols, or use pistols till I need the extra grunt, and when its run out, discard it until I come across a new weapon.

Why? Because as it stands I can pick one gun up at the start of the game and never change it for the entire campaign. It'd mix things up a bit if you were forced to use different guns as you found them, make you switch your tactics as you found new weapons.

It'd add more suspense as you are always on the verge of running out, and constantly on the lookout for a new gun.

That...is why you fail.

Try Uzi or the M4 on Expert in the later missions and then see if you want to complain about being too much ammo :D

(Also in Expert there aren't as many weapons/ammo/health/pills/bombs scattered about)

Sounds like you need to grow a pair and play on expert rather than fannying around on Advanced :D

Also, is it worth going for the sniper rifle, my mates were telling me to get an m4 or auto shotty, but i read the tank gets more damage off a rifle? But the best bit of the rofle was spinning around and sniping the hunter on my brother on the opposite side of the map. BOOOOOOM HEADSHOT !

I have heard this, but it realy does depend. One person in your team on expert should have the rifle, two with M4 and one auto shotty imo.

I have learned the ways of the Auto-Shotty against bosses and average zombies and it just pwnz too hard. The Rifle is the best average skill gun to use against a tank. I.E - 15 Round (i think), Max range = dead tank if your team mates do some damage aswell.

However, if you got the auto shotty and are on good health (no running imparements) you can **** the tank up good by getting close and unloading 10 shotgun shells into him. I've done about 6k on my own before. Run close, blast, if he comes for you, leg it if not and he goes for soemone else, get close and blast again.

Hunting Rifle is the best weapon to take the tank out. Does the most damage and you can get him from a distance. If you use the autoshotty, you have to be up close to do any real damage, which means the tanks is likely to knock you on your ass and you'll also be in the line of fire.

p.s. I wish expert was the only difficulty in the game. :D

True that! As I said above, auto shotty is best if you got the skills and health to get away with it.

Best time for autoshotty is if one of your mates gets knocked and therfore imminent death, sneak up behind him and you can unload 10 shells and run before he turns around and comes for you :D

Noticed also that if you manage to get the tank infront of the huge mounted gun get someone to go mental on it, it makes the tank walk even slower but the guy on the gun will get a rock at his head.

I never really found the need to use the hunting rifle, as if there are more than a couple of infected then you get rushed far too easily. Is it good against all the bosses then, or just the Tank?

I can see it being pretty handy if you could take a witch out with 1 or 2 shots, especially if she is sat right in the middle of where you need to go (ala in a train in No Mercy). This way you then have to trade off being able to take down the bosses more easily against being pretty useless against the horde.

I play on Expert as well :p I just preffer Advanced as a ballance of fun and difficulty, Expert can get rather frustrating when your team dies on the same level over and over again.

Anywho, the problem I have with the ammo situation is, killing becomes monotonous, you get your rifle and plug away, then you find an ammo stack and plug away again, and again, and again until vitory or death.

I personally would find it more fun if I ran out, and that was it tough, get running around shooting stuff with pistols until you reach the next safe house and tough.

Fair enough having ammo stashes at the big end battles, but having stashes through the levels spoils my fun :p

Meh, still an awesome game :D

Hunting rifle is actually a very over looked weapon. Its good in most situations. I wish more players would use it.

You could just unload your main weapon at the safe house and just use the pistol. There is an achievement for doing this.

Oh god, I was playing with Mrk and a few other OcUK people last night. Airport on expert and Mrk was going for akimbo assasin. LOL we almost did it but then got bored of dying all the time because of him so we put it on advanced.

At the moment I am in two playing styles. One is where I get a good team of friends and can do expert within about 2hrs give or take.

The other is where I am in another group of people I don't know the playstyle of so well...and Expert seems a notch to far on difficulty but advanced seems really boring in comparsion. Which is frustrating.

I think on expert its all taken care of game wise, only people letting you down on the Friendly Fire which really screws you.

Already have it :D

On Advanced just using pistols isn't actually hard, I found using them no more or less difficult than using a shotty/mg...

While I have no issues with the game as it is (balance and pacing for a game like this must be a difficult one to crack), I understand where you are coming from. I love the idea of weapons scattered throughout the world, each weapon with a story of their own. How many M16s does this city have? Imagine you stumble into a house with a WWII collectors weapon stash, having to use a rusty old bolt action rifle untill you can find some farmers double barrel shotty, then maybe you find Sarah Connors basement and pick up all your M16s and grenade launchers. In any other game this would probably be impossible, but the director could pace the game according to you arsenal.

I'm not complaining though, finding the advanced weapons always puts a smile on my face and while I seem to favour the shotty these days, I often take to moment to chose which weapon takes my fancy.

The hunting rifle is good against all boses, amusing you can aim fast (unless you are already being dragged by the smoker, then it's useless). I don't bother with the scope most of the time, just try to line up a headshot asap and hunters and smokers don't stand a chance. If you have the room to do so, make a huge gap between you and the witch, shoot her in the head and keep doing so, as she runs for you your team can be laying into her from where ever (she wont go for them). She will be dead before she is anywhere near you.

It is also good against hordes, if you position yourself correctly. If they are coming at you down a corridoor one shot will take out five zombies at distance, pace your shots and you are golden.

I may have to give it another try tonight then, as i have been in very few games where there has been a hunting being used. I should be on by about 5pm tonight for a good few hours - internet permitting as it has been playing up a bit recently.

Have any of you made a private home server yet? I thinking of doing it coz its so hard to find the level you want to play, that does not lag/disconnect, and that is not full.

I am not sure which ports to open to let people connect to my pc. So far I have found this guide and done everything it has said. http://www.left4dead411.com/left-4-dead-servers

If anyone has done it, and can help out, that would be great.

Thanks.

Sweet lads, it's good to know Im not the only one experimenting with the hunting rifle. Im normally with that or the auto shotty, I did manage to get 20 rounds into a tank from close up as he was pounding my brother to death on the ground (:D), and as he turned to charge me, a petrol bomb was throw at his feet, and my last few shots took him down. Great feeling of achievement, although my brother had to die :D:D:D

Now for the noobie question, how do you use the scope ? Not sure it matters, as crouching at distance and using the standard crosshair does the job perfectly.

Just forward whatever port you use for the server - 27000 is the default I think (though you can set it very easily, removing any confusion).

The game isn't too intensive on your connection but CPU and ram usage is high - keep that in mind if the server you're using isn't amazing spec.

Mouse button 3 brings up scope. Useless to me using my mx revolution, so I've changed it to the left shift button.

I was planing to you my PC as the server, while aslo playing on it. Would that not be possible? I am pretty sure it would, see my sig for my PC spec.

So your saying if I open 27000 and follow that guide why I have, it should work?

Cheers.
