After playing this all weekend, i've come to the conclusion that what L4D really needs is the following:
1) More weapon variety (I could have sworn at the end of the demo it said there were more weapons in the full release... i've not seen any...).
There reallyneeds to be some good mele weapons in there as well.
2) Less ammo dumps/no ammo dumps. Yup you read that right, there is too much ammo in this game, even on Advanced I very very rarely run out of ammo. I want to be fighting for my survival only for my weapon to click dry and have to fall back to running around screaming blasting zombies with pistols. It'd add a bit more tension to the game.
3) Weapon pickups scattered through the levels as well as in safehouses, I want to pick a shotty up, it only have say 24 rounds, I can either use that and then fall back to pistols, or use pistols till I need the extra grunt, and when its run out, discard it until I come across a new weapon.
Why? Because as it stands I can pick one gun up at the start of the game and never change it for the entire campaign. It'd mix things up a bit if you were forced to use different guns as you found them, make you switch your tactics as you found new weapons.
It'd add more suspense as you are always on the verge of running out, and constantly on the lookout for a new gun.
Also, is it worth going for the sniper rifle, my mates were telling me to get an m4 or auto shotty, but i read the tank gets more damage off a rifle? But the best bit of the rofle was spinning around and sniping the hunter on my brother on the opposite side of the map. BOOOOOOM HEADSHOT !

Hunting Rifle is the best weapon to take the tank out. Does the most damage and you can get him from a distance. If you use the autoshotty, you have to be up close to do any real damage, which means the tanks is likely to knock you on your ass and you'll also be in the line of fire.
p.s. I wish expert was the only difficulty in the game.![]()

That...is why you fail.
Try Uzi or the M4 on Expert in the later missions and then see if you want to complain about being too much ammo
(Also in Expert there aren't as many weapons/ammo/health/pills/bombs scattered about)
Sounds like you need to grow a pair and play on expert rather than fannying around on Advanced![]()
I play on Expert as wellI just preffer Advanced as a ballance of fun and difficulty, Expert can get rather frustrating when your team dies on the same level over and over again.
Anywho, the problem I have with the ammo situation is, killing becomes monotonous, you get your rifle and plug away, then you find an ammo stack and plug away again, and again, and again until vitory or death.
I personally would find it more fun if I ran out, and that was it tough, get running around shooting stuff with pistols until you reach the next safe house and tough.
Fair enough having ammo stashes at the big end battles, but having stashes through the levels spoils my fun
Meh, still an awesome game![]()
Hunting rifle is actually a very over looked weapon. Its good in most situations. I wish more players would use it.
You could just unload your main weapon at the safe house and just use the pistol. There is an achievement for doing this.

The hunting rifle is good against all boses, amusing you can aim fast (unless you are already being dragged by the smoker, then it's useless). I don't bother with the scope most of the time, just try to line up a headshot asap and hunters and smokers don't stand a chance. If you have the room to do so, make a huge gap between you and the witch, shoot her in the head and keep doing so, as she runs for you your team can be laying into her from where ever (she wont go for them). She will be dead before she is anywhere near you.I never really found the need to use the hunting rifle, as if there are more than a couple of infected then you get rushed far too easily. Is it good against all the bosses then, or just the Tank?
I can see it being pretty handy if you could take a witch out with 1 or 2 shots, especially if she is sat right in the middle of where you need to go (ala in a train in No Mercy). This way you then have to trade off being able to take down the bosses more easily against being pretty useless against the horde.

It is also good against hordes, if you position yourself correctly. If they are coming at you down a corridoor one shot will take out five zombies at distance, pace your shots and you are golden.
Have any of you made a private home server yet? I thinking of doing it coz its so hard to find the level you want to play, that does not lag/disconnect, and that is not full.
I am not sure which ports to open to let people connect to my pc. So far I have found this guide and done everything it has said. http://www.left4dead411.com/left-4-dead-servers
If anyone has done it, and can help out, that would be great.
Thanks.
Sweet lads, it's good to know Im not the only one experimenting with the hunting rifle. Im normally with that or the auto shotty, I did manage to get 20 rounds into a tank from close up as he was pounding my brother to death on the groundD), and as he turned to charge me, a petrol bomb was throw at his feet, and my last few shots took him down. Great feeling of achievement, although my brother had to die
Now for the noobie question, how do you use the scope ? Not sure it matters, as crouching at distance and using the standard crosshair does the job perfectly.
Just forward whatever port you use for the server - 27000 is the default I think (though you can set it very easily, removing any confusion).
The game isn't too intensive on your connection but CPU and ram usage is high - keep that in mind if the server you're using isn't amazing spec.
