Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice... I am going to be 22 in Feb and will have two years no claims in June.

I really want a nice 2004/2005 Mercedes SL 350 (around £25,000).

I have been doing some insurance quotes on some of the big price comparison sites based on me getting the car in Feb (1 years no claims) and in June (2 years no claims) and i cant seem to get a quote under £4000!!!

Now, i know 22 is young and 2 years no cliams is not a lot and a 3.5L Merc is big and powerful but £4000 i mad money.

Any ideas? Advice? (Besides buy a smaller car/cheaper car/cough up the money). :(#

Oh and although i am expecting it as it is the Oc forums please can you keep your 'well if you can afford £25,000 at 22 then why not pay the £4,000 insurance/ willy waving thread" comments to a minimum. Its a genuine question and i would very much appreciate some genuine advice.

Thanks

Not buying this one. Anyone talented enough to have earnt enough to buy and run a car like this at such an age can spell words like 'claims' and knows you dont get an extra years no claims in a few months.

There is no reason why you can't get a decent enough quote for about £1500 on this sort of car at this age unless you live in a crap area which further increases the chance of this being yet another dreamer therad.

I hope you realise the running costs and depreciation of a 2005 SL350 are going dwarf your insurance. Also, the SL350 is pointless - the SL500 is the one to buy.

 Insurance on a 350 should be minimal with that criteria, i am 23 with 0NCB and get very low quotes on the small engines.

Try bell.co.uk, putting a middle aged woman as a named driver.

This was a subject of discussion on IRC earlier with the motors regulars, dont you find it awfully strange how on the same forum the 45% tax band type threads attract a lot of people complaining, yet in motor's 99% of threads are regarding shonky old mondeo's and £300 service bills?

Lot's of grads are on good money so £25k on a car is definitely achievable if it's one of your main priorities. As for the op, easy answer is just to wait to get some more ncb.

Well 45% tax will effect around 3% of the population so it's not suprising it effects so many on this forum...ooo look, some flying piggies

Have a look through this guys previous threads. It's quite amusing

'HELP HOW DO ORDER INTERNET'
'Should I hire a brand new C Class?'
'Should I buy some Champagne'
'I have a Clio, should I service it? Sometimes i squeel the tyres'
