Ok,

So I'm demolishing the house.Got full planning permission.

Architect and plans is in place.

Now comes the tech:D


What would you like in terms of technology inbuilt.

eg: Central heating settings from the laptop?

Be as creative as you like?

Was gonna pull an old favourite out of the retirement cupboard... "nuke it from orbi- hey... who are you guys... get your hands off of me... noooooo..........."
 
Are you nuking it from orbit to be sure?

Personally, I'd love to build my own house from scratch, I would definitely focus upon heating and cooling efficiency, it would be brilliant having a system that copes equally well with maintaining a cool temperature in summer and a warmer temperature in winter.

I'd have lots and lots of smart technology, sensors everywhere, weather station built into the roof to access live data on wind, dew point, temperature, barometric pressure etc. :D
Multiple Cat5/6 points cleverly concealed around the house, never liked wireless all that much.

Speakers built into the ceiling for definite with the ability to pipe music etc. to any of them throughout the house.
 
The first thing most people are going to say is data points in all the rooms, you can never have enough network access.

Something I always think looks smart is putting speaker wire in the wall for your surround sound.

The thing with home automation is its hard to get everything to talk to each other, it would be good if you could just have one large control device that does everything from heating to tv channels.

I have just got planning to demolish my house.

I'm rebuilding.

Now is the time to to design and think out state of the art TECHNOLOGY systems for controlling multi media in the house.

The heating and lights are sorted.

I'm looking at a multimedia entertainment angle.

As pre build will be cheaper to route cables,speakers ,cat 5 etc... through the house.
 
If you're talking about building your house from scratch then you need X10 automation, electronically programmable thermostat with good aircon unit, speakers in every room - centrally controlled, LAN ports plumbed in with plug sockets...

We intend to use the current house as hardcore once we sift the glass and metal and wood out.


Demolishing is not as sinple as what I originally thought :)
 
Steal a homeless person's brain and wire it up to your house. Just avoid any glowing red dots and definitely don't call it the Household Automation Lab.

You know what I always liked? Sunked storage within the kitchen. Push of a button and storage comes up from outside the work units. Oh... You have to have a sound system in the house with a device t o change it in every room.

A TV in y our bedroom which sinks into the wall / counter as well.

What about mood lighting?
 
You'd be far better of putting conduits in the walls / floors / ceilings and get some decent looking caps than just wire.
Would mean that when you come to put the wires in you could start with cheapo 2 quid a meter stuff while you spend your real money on other slightly more important things like a roof and windows...
When the time is right and you are flush with cash pull out the old wires and put in some decent ones.

No DO call it the Household Automation Lab :) it will freak people out, well assuming they get the reference.
 
Are you going to have a panic room? That could be your base of operations - remotely operated CCTV as well as your networking and hi-fi gear.

Got a cellar? Got a cinema?

Wouldn't it be easier for you to remove the glass before demolishing the house?
