Anyone any idea on unemployment what you can claim as such..

Just been let go this afternoon, and i have never been unemployed at all, worked most of my life so far.

Phone them up and ask as it's based on your individual circumstances and money you have elsewhere.

Telephone: 0800 0 55 66 88

As said, call up the 0800 number, select the jobseekers allowance option, and provide the details requested. You'll need a passport or two proofs of ID when they give you an appointment at your local jobcentre.

This is assuming you're classed as single and don't own a property, though...

get on the dole mate, you can start the ball rolling on the job centre website but you'll need to ring them every couple of days to make sure that you're being noticed. If you go in and try to claim you'll probably get told to come back another time.

You'll be on 47.50 a week, paid every fortnight unless you've got kids etc that you can claim for.

Good luck sorting it out, took me an age when i got laid off.

Its more if you're over 25 (about £57 a week), which I suspect the OP is...

i'm just about to come off JSA as i've just got a job but i've been getting £60.50 a week (paid fortnightly).

thats the amount they think you need to live on (their words)

j0s, if you're renting I suggest you pack your bags and find alternative accomodation, the vast majority of landlords will not rent to unemployed people.

Cyanide - yes, you'll find the 18-24 age group generally doesn't get much support at all, especially when it comes to emergency accomodation...

There's always contribution-based JSA I guess..

It takes ages to process by the way, can be up to 6 weeks easily. You can apply for a crisis loan each week though up till then.

Don't forget you get housing 'allowance' as well, which means they will pay your rent as long as it is fair

that and council tax

dont use the website to claim, its useless. get on the phone and then your claim will start from today so no matter how long it takes them to sort it all out you will get money from today. they will send you in the right direction towards any housing benefits etc too.

very heplful people in my opinion

Yes, but what are the chances of your average private landlord agreeing to it? Near zero in most places.

I certainly wasn't able to get any payment for that sorted..

they don't pay all of it though, nor do they care what was 'suitable' whilst working. Flat out refused to cover my rent (450pcm for city centre leeds) because I had 'other options' available.

Being unemployed is utterly gash
