A court in Iran has ruled that a man who blinded a woman with acid after she spurned his marriage proposals will also be blinded with acid.

The ruling was reported in Iranian newspapers on Thursday.

The punishment is legal under the Islamic Sharia code of qias or equivalence, which allows retribution for violent crimes.

The court also ordered the attacker, 27-year-old Majid Movahedi, to pay compensation to the victim.

The acid attack took place in 2004. The victim, Ameneh Bahrami, went to Spain for surgery to reconstruct her face but efforts to restore her sight failed.

The ruling was a response to her plea to the court in the Iranian capital Tehran for retribution.

"Ever since I was subject to acid being thrown on my face, I have a constant feeling of being in danger," she told the court.

Ms Bahrami also said that Movahedi had also threatened to kill her.

Wow, just wow.

I wonder who gets the job to put the acid in his eyes?

For once i tend to agree with iranian law.

he is getting whats owed to him and no mistake!

Well i'm sure we won't see another woman splashed with acid by a potential suitor anytime soon.

No wait, they should adopt our system of leniency, rights for the criminal over the victim, and most importantly ASBOs!!

In all seriousness, it was a horrible crime, and if you don't fight crime with nasty deterrants, what do you have?

I dont think the scumbag has any rights or deserves any sympathy.

I've never really agreed with the "two wrongs don't make a right" saying.

Good on them, lets see how he copes. It should be an excellent deterrant.

Amazing... people will have a fit when a Muslim allegedly complains about Christmas, but if they want to throw acid in peoples faces, it's completely justified.

I think you should **** off to Iran for a year and live under their law to see just how wonderful you find it.

As barbaric and bad as it seems, it almost makes sense. I know its wrong but yet it's kinda right.

I dunno, anyway, I'll get the ball rolling:

I suppose he should have kept an eye on the situation :D

Funny how people on this forum decry islam as being barbaric and backwards and then applaud punishments like this...
