Ultima Mobile - 15.4" WSXGA Laptop

yeah but HP are the worlds number 1 PC maker, and overclockers will never have the buying power to match that of HP or Dell

Funny thing is, HP and Dell don't actually MAKE their notebooks.
FYI, Clevo make the one's on the OcUK site. And THEY might be one of the best laptop manufacturers around atm.

gave up with xp pro and I’ve installed vista now but on xp settings in the bios, if I change it to vista it just keeps looping without ever loading up.

Anyway does anyone know why my wireless would keep disconnecting intermittently?

Hi Slackworth

Sorry to be a pain but is there any possibility of looking into my RMA / GPU issue please?

Not really getting the help I hoped for unfortunately.

Thanks

Mike

I'm not in work tomorrow so cannot sort anything till Monday though will try to help out as best I can till then.

Have you got the laptop at the mo or have we got it? Have you heard from any of the tech guys yet? Can you post your order number here too and I'll see what I can find out tomorrow.

Boot Problem: I had this problem aswell, but it only occured when I disabled the "Legacy Boot" in the BIOS. After enabling it again, all was well. Hope this works for you.

Wireless: Once again, I had the same problem as this. Frustrated the hell out of me, especially when doing research. If you grab the newest Intel Wireless drivers, it should fix the problem (remember to uninstall the old ones first). They ca be found at: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=3062&lang=eng
Just choose your Operating System, and accept the agreement etc.

You guys have the laptop at the mo, I dropped it off on Thursday morning and demonstrated the problems at the front desk. The RAM was sorted out there and then (a stick was loose) but the laptop shut-down whilst trying to get a 3DMark score.

Got a call back midday Thursday suggesting they were too busy to sort it that day. Sent a webnote yesterday to request a phone call to let me know how things are going. Got an email reply suggesting they are still too busy to look at it and it will be 5-7 days. I sent a reply to this requesting a phone call but had no response yet :(

I'm assuming there is a fault with the GPU, if it were to be swapped out with a new one followed by running 3DMark then that should cure it (assuming it doesn't shut down and a score in the region of 9000 is obtained).

Just starting to run out of time before my holiday, need to get it all fully functioning with all software installed. If it can be fixed today then I can travel to Stoke and collect in person but from tonight I'm doing a mixture of night shifts and working in Carlisle so it's going to be hard for me to get things ready for going away.

Not got my order number to hand (left the paperwork with OcUK staff) but I've got copies somewhere so will see if I can find them. ** edit, order number is 3252903 **

Thanks for your help

Mike

Thanks my friend, my Legacy was already enabled. I changed the SATA from AHCI to IDE and this fixed the problem. Not got the new drivers yet will let you know how I get on later.

Also I was wondering if Overclockers or someone would provide links in this thread to all the relevant driver updates for this laptop, and maybe the best config for the bios, I didn't seem to get any bios instructions.

ok, ive finally got my ultima mobile up and working, but i have one problem, firstly im running xp pro sp3, t9400 2gb ram. everything seems to be working ok, i ran 3dmark06 and got 9300 so all good, so i thought i would check temps, now it doesnt matter what software i use nothing seems to detect my cpu temp its either -26 or +126c, so is this a cpu problem or driver or sensors problem, i gave it a proper test last night to see if it would shutdown after long time running, i was playing crysis and farcy2 for about 2-3 hours, now if there was a problem with the cpu i thought it would shutdown but it didnt, i check the temps for the gpu and it was quite high at 91c. Has anyone got any ideas!!
please help

Official Clevo Drivers: HERE. Choose M86xTU from the drop down
Intel Wireless Link 5300: HERE. Choose your Operating System from the drop-down list.
Intel SATA Controller Drivers: HERE. These are the Vista drivers, which in most cases, reduce the temperature of the Hard Drive.
LaptopVideo2Go's Dox Modded Graphics Drivers: HERE. These can give amazing results from the stock Clevo Nvidia drivers. However, be sure to use Driver Cleaner, or DriverSweeper (free) to make sure the old drivers are removed before installing the new Dox ones.

BIOS Settings: I think you're best bet is just to leave it alone, and only change settings if necessary (installing XP etc). However, I have mine set to ACHI, Vista, Automatic Fan, and pretty much else on default settings. (I'm using Vista Business X64 btw)
If you want anymore added to the list, feel free to ask. :)

Can't say I've had it go that high, but it does get to about 70+ after a massive gaming sesh.
If you aren't already, place the laptop on a desk, or flat surface. Make sure nothing is blocking the vents, and the area around the laptop is clean, and relatively dust-free.
Failing that, try cleaning the vents with some compressed air, might just have some dust clogging it, or pet fur.

Ive just wiped my machine, and installed Windows XP SP3 32bit. My 3DMark06 score has gone upto 9536 from around 8900 when i had vista ultimate X64.

both times i used the supplied driver cd's for everything except the graphics.

With vista i tried the lateset nvidia desktop drivers with custom .inf, and then the latest drivers from the clevo site ( i got slightly better results with the desktop drivers)

with XP i have used the latest custom driver setup from Laptops2Go

Ive tried Vista ultimate 64 again.. this time i used all the drivers off the CD except for the graphics, and ive used the latest vista64 drivers from laptops2go. i got 9328 this time in 3dmark06 :)

Should hopefully get mine back tomorrow with my GPU problems resolved and a decent 3DMark score!

How are people finding the laptopvideo2go drivers compared to the stock ones as far as stability goes. Any noted problems yet?

do these play nicely with linux?
Yes, very well - I've just installed Ubuntu 8.10 this afternoon so I now dual boot with a much customized (no eye candy) XP Pro install :D Everything works but I am looking into Nvidia drivers for Linux so I can fine tune things like the refresh rate.

These Ultima Mobile - 15.4" WSXGA Laptops really are superb machines

Since using the Laptop2go custom driver package as oppose to just bunging a custom .inf file with the desktop driver i notice that the laptop runs much cooler when using desktop apps. Those power saving features really do work ;)

Hi,
I recieved my Laptop on Friday and it's got a dead/stuck pixel

I've installed Vista x64 on it, but cannot install the Intel MEI drivers from the Clevo website. It says somthing like my system is not powerfull enough

Anyone else had this trouble?

T9600, 4GB Ram, 320GB @ 7200 RPM.

Thanks.

The only drivers i couldnt install are the intel matrix storage drivers. The message is something like: could not install drivers becuase you system doesnt meet the requirements

you need to have your system running in ahci mode to install the drivers. if your running in IDE mode, then you dont need the drivers anyway.

Slackworth / OcUK employees

I've just received an email saying my RMA is complete and is going to be shipped.

Please can you keep the laptop in your store! I requested to pick it up so I can get straight on with setting it all up so I'll come and collect later.

Just sent a webnote and trying to get through to the office on the phone.

Thanks
