Seriously? Think about it - on a HUGE planet we have scanned a good chunk of, we have only come across ONE mediumish sized log.

Yeah they had trees on Mars - so few in fact only one "Log" was ever found.

Seems that it needs to come with a quarry of salt, this thread!

Interesting, but probably rock. I remember another photo where numerous sites suggested there was a man sitting atop a rock formation. It was just another rock. :)

Have a look at the average picture taken from the ISS or Earth orbiting satellites. How many times have you seen an image where you can definitely say "that's a log". None, I'll wager (Google Earth doesn't count btw). I'm sure it isn't a log, but that doesn't validate your comment.

But the rovers have covered (albeit not the big chunk that a orbitting satalite will have taken) but they would have been a fair chance that the rover would have come across something similar in the past.

That said I take what you said as valid - and have been trying to find some info on how much of the planet the rover has scanned but cannot find anything - so yes I can not 100% say "It's not a log" more so "I highly doubt that is a log from what we know".

Yep, it's definitely a log, probably on standby for the campfire in the middle of the picture.

Edit: Sorry, just realised I was caught, that'll teach me to look at the original image.
