Just wondered if anyone knows if there's going to be a third full release of this amazing game - loved TW2 and the addons and mods but I'd dying for more!

Any suggested addons? I've tried a few including "the long road" which were great.

Rome would be cool. Never played shogun so maybe that.

The only bad thing about Med2 was the bloody Inquisitors. Suddenly half my family is dead in one turn. Garr.

Search for "Empire Total War" and you will get a big thread with videos, pictures and all sorts of info:)

Bring on ww1 and 2 :p Can you imagin cordinating planes, not really sure how it would all work though.

I think ww1 and 2 would detract a lot away from its origins. I really enjoy the orginal mtw wish they would go back to that style more really.

It's practically the same with better graphics and few more details plus a nicer GUI on campaign mode.

I think the series is heading towards modern warfare - WW1 might be possible but anything after that will give the current engine a headache. I'm not really that keen on the idea myself. I prefer ancient/medieval. The scope of Rome was simply awesome. An upgraded engine and Rome II would be amazing. Probably my favourite of the series to date.

By the way as for addons, Darth Ages has just released 8.4. I've been busy beta testing it and I can vouch it rocks :)

Definately. The first M:TW was probably the best strategy game that I've ever played (well, maybe a dead heat with Civ 4). It just felt right and despite the simplicity of the map and graphics had so much more to it than M2:TW. The latest one really needs civil war and jihads, and I think that the battles were far better balanced in the first one as well.

I'd love to see a "proper" (ie not the mod) Hellenic Total War game, that would be fantastic. The Napoleonic era is also one which fascinates me, but I'm not too sure whether there was enough else going on historically aside from Napoleon for it to be a feasible full game; it may work better as a mod or expansion pack for Empire.

Must admit I wouldn't be as interested in the games if it were modern warfare - there's plenty of other games already doing this or something similar (C&C/TA etc).

I'd much rather they stuck with Medieval era.

I agree about the modern thing-it doesn't really interest me, and I'm not entirely sure if it would work as well; factoring in planes, or even satellites, which can move across the entire map in a turn could just lead to confusion. The planes at least would be an issue even for WWII.

I don't really see how WWI would work too well either; I'm not sure that battles comprising of hurling infantry at machine guns would be overly enjoyable.

That said I wouldn't want to see them stick to the Medieval period alone, there are so many other interesting periods in history that could work: Napoleonic, Hellenic, Carthaginian, American (USA, not the Aztecs etc), the Mongol invasions. All could make for great games, so it would be a shame to see the Total War series become limited to the Medieval era.

Actually thinking about this i wonder if they would do a space version. I mean change the map from Europe to space with empire sectors or somit. Have empire management as u do. And make the battle engine well just change land and replace with star field and use ships like homeworld or somit.

Would rock that imo.

Here's the inevitable question, then: better than Stainless Steel?

Regarding the 'which period next?' question, I think I'd like to see an updated Shogun. Let's face it, the last three [four, if you include ETW] theatres have been focussed around Continental Europe, and I think it's time for a change. Not just the Japanese islands, but encompassing more of East Asia.

I can't see it happening, however, as the battle engine appears to be developing toward newer, flashier aspects of warfare. I can't see Creative Assembly spending all that time on the development of naval battles or inter-building skirmishes only for them to be underused in a Shogunesque theatre.

I have to admit, I also preferred the 'discrete regions' campaign map :(

I think the American Civil War is as modern as the TW games could ever be. Every war after completely changed in style and wouldn't be suitable for the TW engine.

WW1 might just work - it was the last war fought with napoleonic tactics - but on an epic scale of course. Off map artillery could be modelled, naval warfare, aerial warfare even, and then it could turn into a Close Combat type of game, but I honestly can't see it. I don't know how they would deal with the other aspects, and for this reason alone I reckon they will back track again. I'm drawling over images of Rome II.. :D

As for which mod is better - I'm obviously biased. Darth Ages takes literally an age to play. You can't blitz anymore. There have been huge improvements, far to many to list here. Stainless Steel is ok but it's like comparing chalk and cheese.
