Fallout 3 or Dead Space?

I've a day off. This morning has been spent outside in the cold, freezing my rear end off changing all the brake pads on my car. My lady, bless her cotton socks, has to work late tonight. In light of my efforts this morning, and the extra 'me time' that I now have remaining today, I figured I'd go buy a new game...

Just finished Far Cry 2 last week, and actually quite enjoyed it. I realise that Fallout 3 and Dead Space are different types of game. Dead Space another nice shooter. Fallout 3 being a role playing game, is it more of a thinking mans shooter?

I've an hour and a half before I'll be off to get one or the other, any suggestions which I should lean toward? I am perhaps leaning more towards Fallout 3...
 
Deffinately a vote for Fallout 3 from me, an exceptional game. But you will barely scrape the surface of it today, so if you are after more instant gratification maybe look elsewhere.

I am over 50 hours played now and still finding new and exciting things.
 
+1 for fallout 3, you can get it at a certain high street store for less than £20 ;)

Has to be one of my favourite games of the year.
 
Dead Space is meant to be really good but I heard that the PC version has a really crappy awkward control system (unless you use a 360 controller)

I didn't get along with Fallout 3 at all to be honest, it's just not the game for me so at the end of the day your decision should be down to your own preference. I would struggle to describe Fallout 3 as a shooter, if you treat it like one you'll be dead pretty post-haste, it's an RPG at heart.

Dead space is an instant gratification survival horror game. If you liked resident evil or silent hill then the odds are you'll probably like this. While i've played Fallout 3 for longer than it took me to complete this, i've had far more fun along the journey.
 
Fallout 3 is Oblivion with guns and bombs and less tedium.

Game of the year for me personally :)
 
Got them both and if I had to pick one, it would be Fallout 3, albeit with mods.

Still enjoy Dead Space though.

My post was pretty vague, and I should have said that I'm keen on something that is going to take as long as possible what with Christmas, credit crunch, recession, brake pads etc to take into account!

In light of the replies, and my first instincts, I think Fallout 3 is the one for me...

+1 for dead space as well i tried to like fallout 3 i really did but a few hours in i just gave up on it so i left my girlfriend playing it but she likes pretty much all rpg type games
 
Dead Space is fantastic, Fallout 3................. is.........ok.

Or another way, Dead space is the best Survival horror game since resident evil 4, and Fallout 3 is an above average RPG.
