*** The Official Football Manager 2009 Thread ***

On the Assistant Manager topic. I sacked my assistant manager because he was bloody useless at press conferences and I usually cannot be bothered to do them. I brought in some Polish guy who had better stats and he has been awesome so far. Does well at press conferences which often has a positive effect on my team, his team talks seem good as well. In one instance I was 2-0 down at half time, he did the team talk, we won 3-2, and I got the praise for the team talk changing the game :p

No, we were just talking about how Saviola seems content to be a bench player at big clubs rather than get first team football and I was trying to remember who his strike partner at River was!
 
I did mutual termination for £140k for my assistant at Villa and got this guy called Massimo Neri, best free assistant manager i can see, as his mental stats own. I take all my talks and press conferences, but it's too much hassle and the few i've given him to do have been good, so i might try him at team talks too.

I don't have morale or motivation problems though, my team tackles well, has majority possession, is always up for the game, but just leak silly goals, seems defensive errors, and strikers are scared to get into area.
 
Its crunch time. 2nd season with Arsenal. 2nd in league. 2 games to go but 5pts behind Man Utd so doesnt look good. In the FA Cup final against Chelski and need to beat Man City for a place in the final of UEFA Cup final.

Only good thing is that I have 2nd place and Champions league place.
 
Arsenal are gods, end of :)

I'd do a network game if i can figure it out, i don't wanna sound stupid, but sod it...

..does it use the team you have in your own current game? Or is it like a one off new team?

Oh wait, just was stupid, it's a network game season isn't it, where you kinda take turns. Actually, someone explain it, will be easier :)

New season, new game, new team :) Works like the current game but you play together and take turns, last I remember I think you both have to have pressed "Continue" before the game will advance. Other than that, it's just like a normal game :)

Its like starting a new game but you have more human players. Can be fun but it can be annoying with waiting for people to finish there turn.

When you click continue, you have to wait for the others.
 
Ahh yeh, that's what i thought before i rambled on.

I'll be up for that, it's hardly time consuming because people will rarely be on at same time i would've thought, though it would get annoying if you're late into the season and other guy is losing badly and loses interest lol. Or the other guy just forgets about it. I'd demand a commitment! :D

A Network game is a game played by multiple people (in this example the OcUK community) and each playing as their own choice of team. You as Villa, Syke as Fulham and me as West Ham for example. We sit at our own machines and play the game as you would on your own, except everyone has to be online at the same time, and everyone has to click continue before the game moves on.
 
Well, as long as people commit to so many continues a day or something (even if you're busy, whats clicking 'continue' take), then it would work fine.
Could always have certain days where we say we'll all play for hour or two, but otherwise just use it as a side project.

Also, can try tactics, check other players out you couldn't in your own leagues, and player vs. player matches would rule for seeing what tactic actually works. Like "I'm using wide, direct passing, i'll try it against your X, Y,Z".

Hey mate, 4 seasons in and haven't found a solid tactic yet!

So far my most consistant is a 4-1-3-2, MC with arrow to DM, or DM with an arrow to DC. Along with Arrow on the AMC.

The Queiroz one works pretty well, from the TTF pack too.

But yeah, nothing that has been amazing really...ill have a tactic that ill beat Utd, and draw with top 4 and lose to hull... :(

Yet to find an amazing regen, although Joe Woods is pretty good in my game (not amazing stats wise though). I'm in late 2012, so hopefully they'll start flowing now :).
 
Dunno how you guys get through seasons so fast, i play the game every night for a couple of hours after work and still got 10 league games left in first season! lol.
