Fitting an exhaust, difficult?

I meant with the issue that if the emissions are too high it's not an issue. :p

I thought that was obvious, in a thread about exhausts, guess not:p

What I meant was the de-cat pipe is pointless if you're never going to fit the cat in place. Just get a nice free flowing pipe from the manifold back.

How big is the ZS cat? £90 sounds a lot for a de-cat...

Illegal MOT's, I'd expect nothing less :)

If the car isn't road worthy then it won't pass. However, if the emissions are a bit too high due to a decat it won't be an issue.

Although, ringing and asking for a certificate without taking the car down there isn't a problem either.

Good ole Essex :D

Well, I think it looks huge, but compared to others it might not be. I can probably get some exact dimensions if you like?

Just looks like a Honda Integra de-cat to me, which is about 17" long. My local welder would do something like that for £30.

I do hope the law catches up with, and prosecutes, whoever this chap is at some point in the future. Issuing certificates without even seeing the car...

Not that I'm defending him, he doesn't do it for everyone, just a few that know him.

He's never MOT'd a car of mine though, and he never will either! :)

For the price of getting it fitted its simply not worth getting your hands dirty, depends on the car but it can be a total pain in the bottom without all the car in the air.

Its worth shopping round I priced one up at the supplies 2 of 3 pieces £85 back box most expensive then got similar pieces fitted at maple tyres for the same money and its guaranteed 12months no leaks and don't you just hate it when you snap one of the bolts getting the old one off

When I priced up a new exhaust I found a couple of places that would supply and fit the exhaust for the same price as I could buy it myself. No brainer - free labour!

on my mazda ive always changed the exhaust myself as i have already had the exhaust in my garage ready to fit its easier for me to do than take time off work and pay a monkey to do it.

on my current mx-5 i didnt even have to jack the car up, just did it in situ, took about 25min to remove old one and put new one on, then i drove 200 yards and came back and put the old one on. buddy club spec II too noisy.

Skywalker and I (mainly Skywalker. Ok pretty much all Skywalker ;) ) fitted my exhaust on my car which is pretty much the same car as yours.

Wasn't to difficult but took a few hours without a decent jack / ramp / pit.

Think most of the problems were getting the moldy old exhaust off.

Good ole Essex :D

Even you'd be surprised at some of the junk that get's through MOT's at the garage next to my house.

"Here's your MOT. You need new brakes"
"ok"
"Are you going to get some? don't make me charge you. I'll come to your house and check you've done it!"
"yessir :("

On topic though, i got the exhaust off my jeep and replaced in half an hour using a trolley jack. It was ludicrously simple. Was quite a contrast to doing the exhaust on my girlfriends Micra. I had to get my father to do it, the angle grinder was out, along with his biggest hammer ;)
