Hi Guys,

Currently i have a small TV which is soon to be replaced with a nice 42" flat screen. Once i have the new TV i want to setup some sort of device to stream my Divx movies. What is the best most cost effective way to do this.

Preferably, i would like to be able to scroll through a menu on the TV in order to select the movie. If this same device could somehow be used on more than one TV that would also be a plus as well :)

Perhaps i could use some sort of NAS which also contains AV ports?

A small media pc would be the most worthwhile solution, add a tv card and you can then record and pause live tv also. All other tvs can then be run using xbox 360s as media extenders.

Sorry but that sounds like an extremely expensive solution. Surely there has to be an easier and cheaper way.

An old original XBox (~£40) running XBMC does me fine. I stream from my NAS box which cost £5 for a PIII 733mhz & 256Mb RAM.

What's your budget? The IcyBox or QNap are pretty good apparently. You'd need something like a PS3 to stream them to though.

Other than that build a HTPC yourself with the required outputs. The cheapest I could come up with from OcUK was about £350 but it depends on the size of the hard drives you want and the size of the case.

That's basically what i want - Little expensive though. Is it possible to stream to multiple devices from one central NAS box? Budget is around £200 including a 1TB drive.

So £110? The 1TB hard drive costs £90. The IcyBox is going to be best kit you'd get for that kind of money, but then you'll need something to stream it to.

Just found this:

Appears that if i want an integrated system, i could use a QNAP + serveral DLNA media players (for each TV) and a QNAP NAS drive.

Unfortunately the QNAP's are £200+ and thats a little expensive for me. I did find a Popcorn hour A100 on the ***** @ £80 (without harddrive). It's a V1 by the looks of it:

Not sure if it takes 1TB SATA drivers?

Sounds like you probably are better getting a Popcorn Hour but if you're wanting to stream to multiple locations in the future you will need to upgrade to a HTPC or NAS will media server functionalities.

Btw, remove the competitor suggestion. If the mods catch it you'll get a holiday.

Have you considered a second hand ps3? I can stream all my video, music and photos to my ps3 from my pc to my hdtv through a hd amp, works a charm and all in hd with hd sound too boot :)
