Just got a ps3 as present form the in laws, and have to say there is two things which have grid my gears ( a la Peter Griffin)

1) Why sell it with out hdmi cable? For the love of god why sell it with the av cable which makes games look loke poor ps2 ports.

2) Spent 25min updating the firmware and game updates.

apart from that iam impressed with how easy it is to navigate through the menus and how silent it is compared to other consoles.

Any games to recomened? Apart from fps which i hate with a joy pad.

Well in that case nope:p.

Fifa 09 is the only other game I can actually recconmend if that's the case.

1) Hardly any items come with a HDMI cable.

2) Spending 25min updating the firmware and games is better than not having any updates. They are only there to improve the experience, and remove any bugs.

It is quiet, but does get loud if you stress it. For example, 4 player (split screen) COD4.

Grid is good fun, as is GT5 Prologue. Also Fifa 09 if you are a football fan. (Just off the top of my head)

You have pointed out 2 very small downsides. The console makes up for that in it's features and games.

the elite does come with hdmi, but thats besides the point. What iam trying say is that it will not cause a great frist impression if like i did, play gta 4 and it looked like gta:sa. I really hope the looks of gta4 get better with a hdmi cable.

I don't see how. You buy a standard xbox360 console and its exactly the same affair. At home I don't have a hdtv so I have no need for one, besides £10 for a cable isn't a massive deal really.

In your op you seem to have pointed out issues that lie with both the ps3 and 360 but applied them only to the ps3?

not an issue for me, sorry. i prefer to buy my own cables as i did when my ps3 was still £425. think how many cables you could buy with the money you saved over the price i paid :o

TBH I like the fact you are able to freely buy a standard cable rather than an official one or something...

One thing that Sony did right was to treat the PS3 as an AV component and assume the end user would be happy to purchase the cables they require to the standards they want. Its a trend you see when setting up your own AV equipment, I dont see people complaining there?...

Every console Ive had Ive had to buy one cable or another - just like you end up having to buy a second controller - pretty automatic for me to cost that in for the purchase. If I got an X360 elite theres a good chance Id buy a HDMI cable for it too (Ive got spares :p)...

ps3ud0

if you think about it though, none of the consoles really comes with the best cables, n64, ps1/2/3, dc etc. all come out with really bog standard cables.

though i dont see why they dont seeing how cheap you can get hdmi cables anyway but still

Its a business decision. How many ps3 or 360 users will own or have access to a hd ready tv? By giving them the cables for sd tv's rather than cables for both sd and hd tv's they cut potential losses from sales of cables that won't be used.

I bought the xbox elite which came with a HDMI cable....but I had to buy a VGA cable to plug it in to my PC monitors, damn them for not supplying me the VGA cable with all the other cables!! ;)

On another note, my first xbox (20GB) came with a component cable, which looked crisp on a HDTV IMO.

Exactly, good on them for leaving you to have a choice imo.

I got a HDMI cable when I bought my last Xbox, left it in the package and bought a VGA cable.

1) Although you can't include every cable with the console I am suprised that Sony didn't include a HDMI cable especially considering Blu-ray is a pretty big feature.

2) Alternatively you can download them to a memorystick which should be quicker?

As for games, well Nokkon has mentioned some good ones, and I would also recommend Uncharted, Rachett & Clank & Ninja Gaiden Sigma which can all be brought cheap now..
