ASUS Rampage II Extreme Thread

I bought this board also, very nice, easy to OC.

Anyone got a fault where it occasionally wont post? I then have to reset cmos, reload my saved settings then it will be fine for a few days?.
Its not a major issue just an annoying glitch.

Went for this board but decided that the trisli setup was going to be to limiting so have an evga board on the way instead.

The TriSLI was a nightmare to set up as the lower slot is at the very bottom of the board, its a really tight fit. even the pled, power switch, usb's etc are right under the bottom graphics card with no clearance.
I've got a huge case(cooler master cosmos) and i had to modify the bottom under the psu to get everything to fit.
From this point of view its a pain in the arse but once I had it fitted it performs very well. :)

What do you mean?? or do you even understand? For Tri-sli the bottom card sits right on top of the power and other board connectors and needs a case with 8 or more expansion slots. The EVGA while losing out on the PCI-E 1x slot at the top actually fits into a standard 7 expansion slot case and the bottom card only covers the pci slot not the board connectors.

I was wondering, can you still attach a disk drive and fully use it when using Tri-sli on that board?

I've got an old style hdd connected to the right hand slot and you probably could get one on the lower slot as long as it was a slim connector.

I've highlighted the two connectors here-

A wee word of warning as you cannot fit the X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty Professional in the black slot as the northbridge gets in the way of it,i take it that you can run this soundcard in the white slot?

whats the difference from the this board and the P6T Palm... I liked the look of the palm, but the performance from this board is pulling me in :D

I was looking at this board but I want to run 2x280's and fit an x-fit soundcard which I'm told isn't possible but is it possible if both 280's are watercooled?if not then looks like this board would be a waste of time for me and fall at the first hurdle

Why isn't it possible?

For anyone who experences this fault, It was ironed out with the latest bios update.

According to the review in custom pc when running two dual slot graphics cards you obstruct both expansion card slots and the only other slot is the black slot below the voltage stability board which is only meant to allow use of the supplied sound card.also heard that there isn't space for an xfi card in the slot because it clashes with voltage stabilty boards heatsink.
Be happy to be told I'm wrong as I like the features on this boardbut I want sli and an xfi card but as I said, both my cards will be watercooled so there may be a slot free with the space you save ditching duel slot air cooling on the gpu for good old h2o

ineed2upgrade: ah i see, I was wondering if it was an electrical issue, but I see now that the GTX 280's are slightly larger than 2-slot.

Just bought this board with a i7 920 and 3x2GB Corsair 1333C9, built a system using my existing BFG 8800GTX and Seasonic M12 which have worked for the last year. As my luck with builds is generally terrible I wasn't suprised when it didn't POST on first boot...

The handy 'LCD POSTER' goes through the following :
Welcome, time, LOCKED, DET DRAM, CHECKCPU, VGA BIOS, USBFINAL, INIT ROM, CMOS ERR, and hangs there with "CMOS ERR" displaying.
Checking the code in the Asus manual helpfully states it means "CMOS error" and does not state any possible cause or resolution.

The RAM is listed in the Asus QVL on the website.

I've tried the following with no change in the reported error :
* CMOS clear button (powered down but with PSU on, press button 2 secs, power on)
* Battery replace - PSU off, battery out, wait 5 mins and back in again.
* A few different permutations of memory module order/count.
* BIOS select jumper on the 3 different positions (not sure why default is the 'menu' position?)

Any ideas?

re

i built one of these yesterday(full pc antec 1200) and i absolutely love it....so good even without overclocking

matja :p

Have you tried just using the blue RAM slots? A1 B1 and C1 should be used for triple channel according to the manual.
