Hey all,

Just wondering why we have shortened down Christmas to the word Xmas even though an X is not involved with the word at all

Was just thinking really,

Thanks, Sam

/time for bed me thinks...

People call it Xmas because they want to take the religion out of a religious holiday.

No they don't, "X" has been an acceptable abbreviation of "Christ" (and "Xmas" of "Christmas") for centuries. The "X" represents "chi", the first letter of the Greek "Khristos".

I always thought it was because X was a cross, the symbol of Christianity. There you go though...
