I'm considering getting one of these babies but am a bit concerned with all these 60ms input lag comments going around. I know some people say you'd have to be superhuman to notice it but I'm sure on top of server lag, it's still a disadvantage if it exists - and coming from using CRTs right up until now I think I would probably notice something was amiss.

Any comments or any suggestions for alternatives?

Sorry if this is being brought up for the umpteenth time... Budget is up to 500 quid btw and this will be used for gaming as well as day to day use.

Cheers!

Well, after doing a load of research, and checking on tftcentral, I'm not really convinced by anything 24" within the budget range so looks like I will probably stick with a 19" CRT for now unless I can justify spending a bit more dough :( Bleh...

I'm after:

- Minimum Input Lag for gaming
- Decent Colour Production for Photoshop
- Very low response time
- Good viewing angle (as I slouch a bit sometimes and am not always dead in front of the screen)

I have a BenQ screen (can't remember model no.) as a secondary and while it's alright for what it does, I definitely wouldn't want it as a main screen. :)

Might have to see if I can stretch to a NEC MultiSync LCD24WMGX3

The longer you wait, the cheaper/better the LCD will be. I reckon early 2009 will be a good time to look for a new monitor. Maybe the January sales will bring some good deals.

As for me, I took the plunge last month with a 24" Benq (FP241W), and I haven't looked back since. It's absolutely worth the amount I paid, even if it has one or two LCD-centric drawbacks.

I'm a bit concerned with the GBP falling against the USD, the sales might not be as great as I'd like, but I'll see :) Here's hoping there's a January Sale on OcUK? :)

Yeah. Here's hoping. :)

That NEC does look like it suits all your prerequisites. I've been researching quite extensively into the pros and cons of these 24" LCDs (as you would, when putting £400+ down on the line), and I definitely had that one shortlisted. It fell just a bit too far out of my budget, so I let it pass,, but I do believe you get what you pay for overall (with consideration to NECs great QA and warranty).

Thanks for the input - the fact someone else reached the same conclusion gives me a bit of comfort :) I'm so used to CRTs that moving to a TFT is a nightmare scenario :D

Same here. I've been gaming on a CRT for the best part of 10 years. I bought the BenQ FP241W and did notice some ghosting - especially in PES 2009 where the image is less complex than that of a FPS, where I actually didn't notice the ghosting as much.

I actually ended up sending the FP241W back today due to 3 dead pixels I subsequently found, but I think I may well have got used to the ghosting over time. I'm tempted to order one again because there just isn't anything out there that can offer as much in that price bracket.

So personally I'd say give the BenQ FP241W a shot. For £350 you won't get a better quality screen in my opinion. The review of the NEC on bit-tech & Trusted Reviews put me off a bit and I honestly can't imagine it being anywhere near ~£270 better than the FP241W. I'd also disregard the Dell 2408WFP entirely if you're remotely serious about gaming. :)

The HP LP2475 and a calibration device (no more than £120 for a decent model). If you use photoshop your colours will be fine. Viewing angle excellent (H-IPS based panel) and much lower input lag (20ms average). I did notice the 60ms when I had the Dell, even in normal desktop usage (mouse seemed very sluggish).

Like the Dell it's wide gamut, hence the need for a calibrator. Other option would be wait until Hazro release the new version of the HZ24 in feb next year as this is meant to have a programmable internal LUT like the NEC models (and will hopefully fix the last few issues with the current 24" model).
