So who is off bargain shopping at Woolworths today?

The real bargains will be on there last day, when they have to reduce it to empty the shop. But by then most stuff people want will be gone. But you might find something hidden or something you want which is not popular. Any idea when there last day of trading will be.

when the shop (each individual one) is empty :p

Tescos wouldn't go for where the Woolies is situated here tbh.

Not nearly enough storage and/or easy access for delivery trucks.

I'd imagine that would be the case with a great number of Woolworths stores sites, as most are situated right smack in the middle of a town.

That said, I'd certainly welcome a Tescos in our town. Would certainly beat the pants off the Somerfield we have now, which is soon to be Co-Op or so I hear?
Where I live we have 5 full sized Tesco stores (including one of the biggest supermarkets in the country) + 3 Tesco express size stores within a 10 mile radius. Compare that with 2 Sainsbury’s, 1 Asda, 1 morrisons and 1 Waitrose and you begin to get the picture of the dominance of Tesco’s.

just been on our local news saying that people were in yesterday and came back today, not really noticing the difference in price. lots walking out empty handed.
lots of items without the original price sticker to show how much you really are saving.

Somebody at my work has just come back from the local one and they are queuing up and down all the ailes and out of the shop for the tills. She didn't look to see how much stuff was going for though, she took one look and walked away.

Either there are genuine bargains to be had or stupid people see "closing down sale" and think 10% off is a bargain.

ANybody know if the Woolworths include the "big W"? They have some expensive high stuff in there which might be worth a visit.

Yeah I popped in - plenty of literally empty shelves. Massive Queues, loads of old people stoating about mumbling 'it's only a fifth off, not much of a closing down sale'.

All the decent stuff is 10% off only.

I saw a couple of things I'd get (pressies for kids), but **** me if I'm waiting in a queue that long!. I'm not that desperate to save a fiver.

it does, there is a big w near me which is a jumble sale.

Well I went into my local one (Fareham, Hampshire) and as expected; packed with people, mostly pushchairs and chavs.

Determined to take a look at the choccy section I went in, ended up with 3 tins and 2 selection packs for £20. Would have cost me £35+ so not a bad deal for cheapy presents for kids or just to snarf myself.

Seems Wollies are well prepared for this, the one here has 3 till sections of checkouts of about 6-10 tills. Queue looked like a pain in the ass but in actual fact only took about 5 minutes!

Its amazing how people will react to CLOSING DOWN FOREVER sales.

oooo 10% off yet people are going insane over it. ffs its 10% 10 ten TEN % PERCENT !

Moss's has a 40% sale in MK thats on decent clothing etc yet I dont see that being ram raided by people.

Then again as mentioned in this thread majority of them ram raiding woolies are mostly chav's etc who think they are saving a mint innit...

Round here Tesco have been banned from opening up another store as it's anti-competitive, but they haven't been forced to give up the land/competitor plots they've bought up, so it's Tesco or er, nothing! Smooth move!

Went into my local one opposite the gym i was going to. EXACTLY the same stuff at the same price because the difference between now and the other day was the queue was MASSIVE because people heard they were closing down and in their heads think they are getting a good deal. CRAZY.

exactly

heaven knows what they'll do with the haverfordwest site

hopefully will turn it into a venue to rival Minnies, they could call it Massives

Well I popped down to Woolies as I was going to regardless of this whole closing down business. Anyway I looked in, saw that the queues were almost to the back for the tills and walked off, my lunch hour is not long enough. I was only going to get my Nan some grow in a pot type flowers for Christmas and maybe some sweets. Anyway I walked up to the recently opened BM Store and I was amazed at the discount prices on chocolates and sweeties in there. After that I had to pop to Tesco and I was amazed at how quiet it was for once! I still have not got my Nans present though!

If the Woolies is shut and not taken over in Wellington where I went today it is carrying on with the end of the town centre. The Kwik Save/ supermarket is gone, now Woolies and soon WH Smiths is moving out apparently. It is a shame but Telford has it's fancy central shopping centre with all the chain brands which sadly you cannot get to by foor easily and costs to pay. In Shrewsbury it will be the second large two story empty store in the town after C&A went which is a big hole in the centre. The best of it is that Primark wanted to move in but the council said it would cheapen the town centre!

I doubt you'll get any bargains.

Speaking of which.. there's so many good deals online at the moment, you'd be crazy to spend the money on the highstreet.

E.g. an online etailer has Far Cry 2, LBP, GTA4, Resistance 2 and some other good games for £19.99. A "good" sale on the highstreet would never knock that much off..

We went into our local woolies today and you couldnt miss the posters in the windows saying 50% off all instore stock, but when you get inside you quickly notice stuff marked out with 10% and 20% off. Whats the deal here? I thought everything was at 50% so they could clear the store quick?

And the que's! dam they were long lol. Anybody wanting to get in and out quick had no chance.

I suggest you go back to your Woolies store and read the signs again.

Are these the big yellow posters, black writing?

Top right hand corner in small writing is "Up To"

COME IN NOW GET Up To
50% OFF!

+ buy a box of Terry's chocolate orange for a double win ;)

Not likely! I went in there a couple of days ago for some masking tape, the chocolate oranges had 10% off, of 1 for £2.50

Hmm, buy one for £2.50 from Wollies or 2 for £3 frommost other shops...
