K Guys I would like your opinion on what 1080p you'd buy if you was spending around 6-700 quid ?

I've been out shopping, Browsing for Washing machines of all things as mine blew up tuther day
I've priced me washing machine an Indesit Moon for around 320. (see Thread to advice)
Whilst browsing the 1080's caught my eye & I think I'll treat myself now I am working :p
I'm thinking if I spend a Grand all in I'll be happy wwhich leaves me 680 for my 1080.
What you reckon, It'll be hooked up to my 360 & Virgin

All Help greatly appreciated :)

This is Not cool :(
I am getting answers & chat about the sad washing machine but Nowt about the Lush 1080 I wanna buy myself :p
Talk to me about 1080 Lushness NOW  + :D

I'll start it off with the I liked the look of the Samsungs :)

Check out Panasonic's 42" 1080P Viera Plasma range, we've recently got the 1 with inbuilt freesat (can't remember the model number) and it's fantastic, we haven't got a blu-ray player as of yet but the picture is so good just watching upscaled dvd's I've found myself watching all my fave classics again! I know the model without the freesat tuner can be had for just under 700 notes.

1080 isn't that important unless you intend to use the set as a pc monitor, or sit soo close that you can see the individual pixels and their structure, E.g. about 5ft on a 40/42inch screen with 20/20 vision.

As ever whats your viewing distance and usage, e.g. 50% tv, 50% console.

And congrats on the job again, it's good to have monies :D

Are we all still in agreement that for that monies the panasonic 42pz80 is the 1080p to get and 42px80 if mostly for SD?

or are they discontinued now? Ive been out of the loop since drooling at bluray on my 42pz80 :)

I went with a Samsung 40" LCD, just couldn't get the image of screen burn on the pioneer plasma that was next to it in the shop, it had been playing the Mototstorm intro over and over. I am very pleased with the TV and the picture Quality is fantastic, TV channels upscaled via HDMI on Virgin look great, Have a PS£ and blu ray movies and games look so crisp, I have a model that is no longer available but the new version is the LE40A656

Enjoy which ever TV you get

Rich

Samsung will be great for gaming and personally the freeview picture on mine is as good as a mates 37PX80.

Samsung 40" LCD HD 1080p Purchased today & awaiting delivery
Think it's the 5 series though Model number is LE40A558PF3XXV.

Looked fantastic in store & has full 1080p. What you reckon, Have I done good. Cost me around 610 but it's hard to say as I bid on a washing machine as well & got a 100 quid off the pair.

Take some material you will be watching into the store and watch it there, ask them to get you a chair to sit on for viewing distance/angles.

You're not going to be watching BBC HD preview all the time so you should watch some SD stuff sitting down and see what it is like with DVDs, with the sound up etc...

Ah nevermind I posted too late!

To late it's MINE :D + :p

Me mate bought one 8 weeks ago & I've played his PS3 on it, Mine will be for 360 & a bit of DVD & HD telly once I have my box of Virgin

Honestly I wouldn't have bought it, it's an old model and is not worth that much as the 6 series superceeded it when it came out earlier this year. You should have gone for the PX80, much better set.

Sorry dude, but this is why you need to know what you are doing in a shop as salesmen will say anything to shift certain stock, and tvs won't be setup correctly to make a proper decision.

Anyway, enjoy.

The 5 came out after the 6 Ad. Its simply a different spec. The 5 supersedes the M86/87 range.

Got to say I saw a few Sony setups, in Currys of all places, but the 40W4500 was superb, far better motion than mine on HD stuff. Sony really have the electronics nailed, full screen panning on my M86 Samsung is a bit of a joke IMO.

after lots of research and looking around, for the money

the 42" panasonic plasma px80 (720p) for £630ish from a competitor with 5 year warranty

or the 42" panasonic plasma pz80 (1080p) for £725inc also from the same competitor wth 5 years warranty

i receieved my pz80 yesterday, hooked up through HDMI to my shiny new ps3, it looks awesome :) rambo head shots in blue ray kick arse!

Woops my bad, thanks for the correction.

I wish samsung just released their panels sequentially and actually put some effort into getting a screen RIGHT rather than releasing one here, another range a few months later, all with problems. Sorry I just don't like the way they do things half heartedly.

They even have x2 LED backlit series out. Sigh.

I am sitting here with the telly on in one corner of the screen & my browser in the rest typing with KB on my lap. MSN is open & I am in Heaven here. Every time I look up at the screen I am saying to myself WOW. My 360 with HDMI lead is Fantastic & I am taken aback at how Gorgeous the visuals are, I plan on playing every single game I own again. I have my Lappy hooked up for the web, My 360 for gaming & my Virgin & DVD for progs & films.
It is still early but this Telly may be my Best ever purchase in the history of Malc as it is not only stunning but is super versatile adding something to Every single area of my home entertainment.
