Illegal plates

Im quite amazed at the number of illegal numberplates around on my commute into work - ie stupid thin fonts that are barely visible at a distance etc, seems to be quite popular around my neck of the woods (Slough)

Perhaps because normal number plates block half the front air intake for any sporty car.

I go past Slough on the beautiful M4 quite a bit, I don't see many illegal plates, but I probably just ignore it now, along with all the other crap driving going on.

spent pretty much the last 4 months living in slough and didnt really notice many plates.
loads of crap cars with no tax with tickets on them though!

My plates have a bevel on them and are thus technically illegal, but it's completely unnoticable unless you are up close; looks just like the real font from about 5m away.... they came with the car, might change them one day.

Most cars don't have the air intake anywhere near there, or rely on it to draw air.

Unless you have an intercooler at the front that a number plate would block, there is no reason for a small number plate, and you're not likely to find a car with a near number plate sized slot for the intercooler ;)

Note I said "sporty", which means it may well have an IC.

I work in Slough :( and I've not seen that many illegal plates, plenty of private plates though and yes the ANPR van cited in the middle of the dual carriageway always seems to catch me out :D

I think my plates are technically illegal, but its just a spacing issue

Instead of: XXX XXX

I have : XXX XXX

Mine is in a legal font and size, but the extra badge on the right means the letters are a few mm too close together. Not been pulled yet (oh-er missus) but I'll probably have to get a truly legal set for the next MoT.

Slightly OT question to save me starting a new thread: anyone know what the thread is on standard numberplate bolts? M6 at a guess?

so is my car sporty cause it has an IC but the number plate doesnt block it. :(

I was clearly talking about FR (ok even riced out FF) rather than MR setups.

MR2s have enough issues with getting rid of heat from the rear on high boost without having a big numberplate there.

Varies from car to car. Personally I prefer to use the sticky pads rather than have a pair of bolts sticking through my plate.
