Hello,

I have a PC with windows XP at the moment,

I have a OEM Original of Vista 64 Premium.

I cannot not install Vista no matter what i have tried.

Install from CD > Not working
Install from Booting > Not working
Install from Format > Not working
Install in another partition > Not Working

Every single time the install stops at the first splash screen with the first reboot, the screen freezes, I have tried waiting 20-40minutes, but nothing has happened,

If i check closely (Move my face right up to monitor) i can see the windows xp/vista "loading" bar at the bottom, very very dimly, and its frozen.

First reboot after install? F8 to boot up in safe mode?

Have you tried disabling the floppy drive in the BIOS? FDD controller or something similar.

If it still doesn't work, try disabling everything that is not essential. Firewire e.t.c.

Then reinstall.

Its the first reboot during the installation process, should i go into bios and disable near every but cd drives?

Thank you for trying to help.

Have you tried unplugging your card reader???
I had a system that would not let me install windows with it plugged in.

I'm not quite sure where this is even in my computer :(

thank you for any more information you can provide

Hi again, Tried what you guys suggested,

I think it may be my GFX Card or my HDD.

dont know what else to do :(

any other suggestions?

PS didnt turn anything off in bios as i didnt know what the hell was what, but i disconnected stuff i dont use from motherboard etc.

Try and look at the log files explained here and see whats logged in setupact and setuperr. Sometimes you can press Shift+F10 during install to open a dos window to have a look through files.

Hi there, I cant do that command because it freezes during the first booting sequence,

also, not sure if this is helpful, the only way i can get back onto windows xp is to place the cd in, and repiar the windows xp boot sector, so along the installation the boot sector seems to be getting corrupt, anyone else able to further this along please?

would a new HDD / GFX card help?

what if i were to get a new hdd and install it onto the hdd via a friends pc and then switch the hdd into my pc, would everything still be okay that way?

thanks again,

Sedar

I had a PC do this while re-installing XP.

Rest the BIOS to defaults, then just made the CD/DVD Drive the first boot device, and it worked fine.

reset my bios?

is that a good idea? will it screw anything up? is it safe? :o

and im guessing that it can be done via the bios menu?

Thanks for the help,

I'd try updating the BIOS before you do anything else :)
Early versions had issues with the Vista install (Stuck in 256 colors), and while this isn't directly what you're experiencing, this looks a good bet.

Cheers
