So I will be starting to play GTA4 soon. I would like to ask you all whether I should play it on the PC or the PS3?

My rig is a Q6600 at 3.2GHz, 4GB RAM, and a 4870 512MB.

I know the game has been plagued with performance issues, but I would like your input about which format I should see this game through on.

Thank you in advanced :)

They just released a patch for the game which apparently improves it quite a bit for the PC.

If you don't have a controller for your PC I'd say get it for the PS3.

3 for PS3.
Why do the visuals look better on the PC though (from the screenshot thread)
Also I thought using keyboard/mouse would make controlling easier?
Please keep the comments flowing! :)

Not tried it on my PC yet, but have tried to get it working on a mates PC and failed. While the performance on the PS3 is dire, at least it's guaranteed to work.

PCs are more powerful than PS3 (well, newish PCs are anyway) meaning the anti aliasing and resolution can be turned up higher than the PS3 can handle.

Controlling it with mouse/keyboard could make it easier, but I've always preferred a controller for the GTA games.

pc tbh, just played it on 360 which runs in better than ps3 and it looked crap compared to on my pc...

Got a quad ( so you :D) : pc.
Got a worse than quad: console.

Imo of course, but console v. looked no better than pc @ lowest to me a bit ago, plus it runs better on pc that way.
But pc still has the shadow bug so if you don't mind a bit poor shadows, then go for ps3, just remember, the ps3 runs 31 fps avg on gta iv, while a quad pc runs it @ 50ish fps at the exact same settings and at a bit higher res.

It's just a matter of controls really, imo kb+mouse >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 360 rubbish controller which is way too big to fit in hands :D.

Don't know what most of you are talking about?

After jumping between my mates PS3 and PC, the PC version is so much better. It's not a blurred mess on the PC, framerates are higher, keyboard and mouse control is so much better?

To me, the 360 version looks better and performs better than on a pc on medium. Strange cause it should be vice versa.

Does anyone actually have the PS3 version?

I do and its sickening. It lags so badly and doesn't even run at 720p making it so blurry. I actually stopped playing as its too hard to see anything.

Get it on PC with your spec. Main thing it needs is a quad, which you have.

Yeah mouse+ kb is so much better, but instead of a blurred mess, it's a jaggered mess on pc, but moving away from the mon or turning on the blur fixes it mostly.

Only, if your tv has nicer colors, I can recommend the pc3 ( which runs @ 31 fps avg iirc), but the 360 version, which runs better than ps3 looked stuttery to me...

So well imo, because your spec, I highly recommend pc verion, because it allows for much higher settings than console verions @ higher fps... But don't be confused, you won't run it @ max and lack of AA looks odd, but when you compare them screen to screen, there's NO WAY the console version runs or looks better than the pc version.

I've got the PS3 one and it's fine. Framerate is decent enough except when things get very busy on screen (multiple car explosions etc) and I can't say I've found it to be too blurry, actually helps hide the rough edges to be honest, but everything is still sharp and clear enough to see all the detail.

Hmm Im swaying towards the PC version here.

Admitedly when I played the PS3 version earlier this year (just to try it out). My first impressions were "damn this is a bit fiddly to control" using the control pad.

Is this first impression a wrong one?

PC, Ain't played it on the PC but if you can get it with a 360 pad then you'll have loads of fun. Microsoft might even bring the exclusive DLC to PC and you'll also haev the mod community.

But I think because of the thread title and op that he has a ps3 and no 360, and tbh, I reckon that there's no denying the ps3 is by far, the worst platform of the 3 to play GTA IV on... If you put it on the settings it's on @ the consoles ( see R* readme), on the pc, it gets much much superior fps than on the consoels on his pc...

Does it tell you the settings the consoles run on in the readme? Can't seem to find it.

I'm not sure where the 'by far' bit comes from; the PS3 and 360 versions are fairly similar. The 360 is the somewhat superior version, but there's nothing to significantly detract from the PS3 version.
