How much is your rent?

I'm guessing it's a student house and he's the only non-student, so pays 75% of the council tax.

Now if you were a bit nifty about it, you could register the house in the names of the students only, and wouldn't have to pay at all :p Fraudulent tax avoidance mind but hey :p

Myself and two others are student, then one girl has a job. The bill comes in way more than expected though, so the student housemates help the other girl out with it a bit.

Annoyingly, our landlord told the council we all work, and then had to prove it otherwise, and shes the only one who cant get an exemption certificate now. Not that we'd do that, of course :p

I was a bit worried also that at post-grad I wouldnt be tax exempt myself, but seemingly I am :)

Have to say, I'm glad I'm renting at the moment. I've managed to knock down the rent on my new place to £730 a month. At one point she had wanted over £950 for it. I took advantage of her needing to move closer to her ill son :( :( . It's a beautiful and modern two bedroom in a leafy part of Barnet. My mate in return have 23 years left on his 190k mortgage paying over £1400 a month on a tiny one bed next to Heathrow. Somwhere something does not make sense.
Seems like it's better to rent.

He must be quoting you his total outgoings and he must have every utility/service/subscription under the sun and council tax band H, as those are repayments on a house worth 80-100k more than that.

EDIT: also surely a 15 year mortgage is more realistic if you can stretch as you would save about 15% in intrest alone.

£750 a month for a modern open plan furnished 2 bed/2 bathroom apartment in the centre of Bristol. Share it with two friends (who're a couple) so £250 each. Bills add up to about another £40 each.

Rather than starting a new thread, can anyone hazard a guess at how much i'd need p/m to rent? I've been looking at a few properties, and if me and a mate split the costs the rent could be around £400 each for a fairly nice place. However I don't really know how much (realistically) everything else would cost per month (still living at home, oblivious to everything else going on). Can anyone hazard a guess? Presuming we had all the normal stuff + internet of some description.

Rent - £450
Council Tax - £80
Water/Gas/Leccy - £30
TV Licence - £10

Then,

Phone, Internet, Food add another £150

This is all minimum costs assuming your looking at living alone.

So £700ish before you even factor in a car, going out, savings etc.

EDIT: half then rent, call it £50 for the council tax (split w/ out discount), £20 for utilities and TV licence etc

About £600ish then, but this is based on a nicer place.

Pay my parents £250 a month, then about another £650 of other outgoings, inclusive of savings and other outgoings..
