I just got a very early xbox360 minus the harddrive. Can i add a usb stick or eternal drive to save data to? or is the only solution a hdd.

Also it had a rrod. Towl trick fixed it for now, Whats the best fix? x clamp or pads. Warrenty is void as the seal was broken when i got it.

You can buy Official memory cards (256MB and 512MB, I think) and 20, 60 ot 120GB HDDs.

All of those are official Microsoft products, you cannot use third party external memory or HDDs to save game related data to (ie game saves, DLC etc, which I assume is what you meant).

Dunno about your towel tricks/x clamps etc etc. Best fix is buy a new one with a full warranty tbh.

Replace the X-Clamps with screws and washers. It may fail again, so overheating it intentionally or doing the oven trick may be worth while, or just do it if it fails again later.

I fixed my RROD with the good ol oven trick, shame the dvd drive is now fubar. Just be very careful removing the clamps, they are quite stiff and its awful easy to scratch the motherboard.

My first attempt at it when trying to remove the first leg of one of the clamps, the screwdriver I was using slipped out and scored the motherboard, stopping only when I hit what I think was a resistor. I continued on with the fix anyway, fully expecting it to be as dead as a dodo... it's been working for months :).

Is it possible to replace the DVD drive?

Yes, but we can't tell you how here.
