Hi all,

Currently using MCP Home Cinema + FFDshow for visual stuff but wondered what I should be using for playing mp3s and so on? Is Winamp still top of the tree or have things changed a bit since I last looked at this?

Advice welcome :-)

hahaha, sorry but for the windows platform winamp is still just about king.... :D (still impressed with songbird now its finally gotten to a nice release)

What is this songbird malarky.....

Odd question but here's as good place to ask it if anything..can the music program affect sound quality? If so, what's best for churning out the old mp3's?

Nope programs don't affect sound quality. And it saddens me no-one seems to actually try MediaMonkey since its better than songbird atm :p But Songbird has more potential i'm willing to admit...

Not 100% sure but I think it depends on the decoding dll file? Foobar is probably pretty good but I'm not sure that you'd hear a lot of difference between the most popular programs.

MediaMonkey? Never heard of it! :p;)

Is songbird remotely good now? I mean, can it deal with large playlists without having a fit? It was worse than iTunes (which is horrific) last time I tried it...

It is much better than when I last tried it. Think it was 0.3 or something. How large a playlist are we talking about? Let me know and I'll knock a playlist up that size, if I've got enough songs, and see what happens.

And it was a fit was it? :p

It's not as quick as MediaMonkey when it comes to massive music librarys :p I'm pooing on you're thread mind ;) Thats actually the main reason along with decent autoDJ that i'd miss that hold me back. It took FOREVER to read all my music at least 10 times longer than MediaMonkey I'd say... Mental really. It's got a long way to come but as i say its only 1.0 and its amazing really with lots of potential!
