Ok i am going to be getting a new card in jan (near the end) i have a budget of no higher than £400 any sudgestions on what to get??

4870X2 if you want to spend all that money, however keep an eye on the refreshes from the various companies, and if you want something a bit more budget orientated, depending on what you're on at the moment the 9800GTX+ and 4850 are still good cards.
Presuming you have a recent machine ofc with PCIE/2

Well if you're after an upgrade from those you're looking 4870, X2 or GTX260/280 and the refreshes territory.

9800GTX>9800GTX+>4850>GTX260>4870>GTX260-216>GTX280/4850X2 (dependant on game and support)>4870X2 (again dependand on support)

The 8800GTS 512 is approximately around the 9800 levels. Both ATI and NV have some refreshes (10% approx perf improvement afaik) coming in the next few months.

I play mostly battlefield 2142 which i force to run at 1920x1200 and eve online a few random other games but they are my main everyday games.

That should be fine as long as its from a named brand and has decent amp output, worth checking first though. Also might want to take a look at reviews as cant remember whether BF2142 is better on ATI or NV.
