Accoring to Aaron Greenburg anyway.

The day before Home launched I got a (clearly unrelated) briefing from Xbox product manager Aaron Greenberg and I brought up this topic. I asked: When/how/how-often will we see cheap clothing options for our Xbox 360 Avatars available for paid download?

"I don't think there's where you're going to see a tremendous amount of revenue," Greenberg said, phrasing his expression of Microsoft's disinterest in selling Avatar clothing in way that argues there's no profit in such a technique. Recently, Microsoft gave away the first batch of new Avatar clothing for free. They don't think they're leaving money on the table.

The kind of Avatar upgrading that Microsoft is interested in will involve gamers unlocking items for their Avatars through the games they are playing. The tools for this are now in the hands of developers. So when will we experience the first results? "As soon as developers get it done," Greenberg said.

I like the sounds of being able to "achieve" clothing unlockables. Should be fun :)

So they are planning to make money from it just not much? So as it cost them nothing in real terms to stick it on the MP and they sell it surely then its making a profit? Its good they are doing the game unlocks stuff, as home is doing for free stuff though.

What exactly is not much profit to the richest man in the world, I bet he gets down when he only makes 1 million a day :p

I don't begrudge the Dude owt though i have to say, It just makes me Laugh out loud when I think of how much Dollar he has :D

This is already happening in Home, I unlocked some clothes, some ornaments, some furniture and a few arcade cabinets for my Home apartment, just by playing through the demo of Namco Museum a few times.
Having a working pacman arcade machine in my 'Home' is pretty cool. :D

Aren't there also a lot of micro-transactions in home though?

it'd be nice to have a 360 topic one day without the "ZOMG PS3 does it for FREE"
it's not big and it's not clever.

Can't we all just... get along? :o

Nice to see MS is taking this route. It would be so easy to charge for everything as they could use the classic excuse 'you don't have to pay do you!?' , also i bet there are hundreds of thousands of people who would pay them 50p just so they could get a gears of war outfit. Easy money, something most companies usually jump at.

To the 2 above posts, who has actually said anything bad?

I think you are both taking things out of context and overreacting.

Whoa, change your rag love.
Stop being over-sensitive, I was only letting Kyle009 know that it certainly is cool to unlock stuff like that, not plunging my PS3 lightsabre into the heart of the evil 360-sith lord like some glorious fanboy hero.

Lighten up.

Yeah can imagine that it'd be pretty cool to unlock stuff.

One of the biggest plus points for me on this news is that my avatar would have just been in default clothing as I would begrudge paying any money for virtual clothes.

If they tie clothes to hard to achieve achievements, like COD Mile High club, think that could be something awesome.

when i first heard about the avatars i was thinking it would be great if they allowed you to unlock stuff via the medium of achievements etc.

As for home. Yes you can get some stuff for free but sony are pimping the micro transactions much more than microsoft
