Mid-Week Footie 17th & 18th December **Spoilers**

What a second half. Glad I stayed in and watched that.

Roll on Sunday morning.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that 10 goals in the 2 games without Berbatov?
No Park or Fletcher starting either and Ronaldo free to roam again... hmm

Giggs at fault for third, Neville at fault for the penalty (and it was, dunno what Collymore was watching! - and they should have had one at the start of the match for another Neville handball).

good match, very impressed with osaka, had they been better in defense i think it would have been a lot closer.

Neville has past it imo. Rafael is way way better than he is and is only 18.

Anderson missed a sitter for his first goal too!

looking forward to sunday, although i dare say it will be a tougher match.

been saying this for awhile now, what berbatov gives the team is less than what he takes away.

with tevez and rooney it allowed the wingers especially ronaldo to go roaming as there work rate meant they covered for him, however as Berbatovs work rate is nil, then ronaldo is having to track back and hold his line, but also it means we are having to play park instead of nani because his work rate means we can try and balance out berba.

however it doesn't work. it curtails our attacking play too much.

Spurs look like they've got a bit of selection nightmare tonight:

Darren Bent is a doubt for Thursday night's final UEFA Cup group match against Spartak Moscow.

The striker hasn't trained since Monday after being laid low by tonsilitis.

It hands boss Harry Redknapp a selection problem up front as he's also without cup-tied Roman Pavlyuchenko, so Fraizer Campbell - thankfully back in training after a calf injury - is our only available, senior striker.

Harry also has a selection headache defensively after Jonathan Woodgate limped out of Saturday's draw against United with a back injury. Vedran Corluka switched to centre-half that day but he's cup-tied and Harry insists he will not play Ledley King in this fixture.

"Jonathan landed awkwardly and his back went into spasms, but hopefully he won't be out for long," reported Harry on Wednesday. "I wouldn't risk Ledley in this game as I want him for league games and Vedran isn't available.

"Michael Dawson was outstanding against United and he will play. Tom Huddlestone or Didier Zokora could also play there so we'll have a look at the situation."

Jermaine Jenas is also sidelined after picking up a calf strain against United. "We'll have to wait and see on that one," added Harry. "He could be available Sunday week (West Brom) or even make it against Fulham on Boxing Day."

Giovani (ankle) and Alan Hutton (foot) remain out.

I was premature in my predictions the other week of 'Arry starting youngsters but I think this may force his hand.

I can't believe Anderson didn't put that away, would have liked Tevez to get on the score sheet. Defensively we were poor, although Neville's last ditch block for the rebound in the second half was excellent. Nokkon I think the crap opposition today and against Blackburn might have helped a little bit

We improved when Tevez was replaced by Rooney it seems - although if we concede stupid goals like that we dont stand a a chance later in the season
( we managed to score three times from open play - although I admit they may not all have been because of the replacement players, even if they were the scorers)

edit -

Tevez and Rooney didnt play together today so that is only really applicable to last season......

and the few matches they played together upto this point they havent set the world alight by any means (but that could be down to team performances on the day of course

Oh, I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that Sunderland were setting the world alight.
Can't believe people complaining about Anderson not scoring, he ran 50 yards without breaking stride and threw himself at something. If he was an extra 1/2 foot taller or the cross was a little better he would have. He was running bloody full tilt!

Neville's block was excellent, but he also gave away one penalty and it should have been two.

We capitulated at the back when Vidic went off. He was the best player on the pitch for that game and the holes in Evans' positioning were clear to see for their first.

But they did play alternately and Giggs' also dragged people all over. The fact is Ronaldo was free without the shackles of a lumbering lazy forward stood still.

yet he didnt score for 70 minutes - yet as soon as his near exact (positionally speaking) replacement comes on - the replacement scores twice (inside 10 minutes)

admittedly Rooney also got booked - but with Rooney you kind of expect that and its a benefit when he doesnt lol

Sunderland were excellent against us defensively, Blackburn and Gamba were both utterly dire, out of the goals last night probably only Fletcher's would have happened in a premiership match.

I think we can complain about Anderson not scoring, it's beyond a joke now. Every time he shoots he either skies it or hits it straight at the keeper, it's incredibly frustrating to see when he is so talented in every other area.
