Bigger box!
Ok, so i'm exaggerating....

But I was initially looking for a 32 inch 1080p screen, and a lot of people were quite happy to tell me I was a moron for even thinking of such a thing with such a small screen. (how was I to know without asking??)

Thing is, It'll litterally be at the end of the bed.....

Does closeness to the screen have a bearing? I may go for a 42 inch screen, but it's still likely to be at the end of the bed and I'm thinking that's a very large screen to be so close to!!

So, to 1080p or not 1080p, that is the question????

You can see the difference between the two at that sort of distance, you might not pick out every single pixel but I do notice it. It's not as much a leap as 720p vs standard def though. Pretty much every telly will be 1080p in the near future anyways so go for it.

you would have to sit very close to a 32" 1080p screen to get the full benefit when watching anything at 1080p , if sitting too far back your eyes would not be able to see the detail

what is your viewing distance? (from eyes to screen)

the general rule of thumb applies!

You are better off having a good quality 720 screen than a poor quality 1080 screen no matter who close you are to it.

Why not just get a 720p 32" tv? You won't really notice much difference from 720p and 1080p on a 32" screen. I hardly notice much difference from 720p and 1080p on my 42" screen. Sure its better, but its not a huge leap better. 1080p really kicks in on 50" screens.

The absolutely obvious benefit of 1080p on a 32" tv would be if you are ever likely to use it as a pc media centre.

Then it'd def be useful to have a 1080p 32" lcd.

I have a 50" 1080p plasma about 4ft from the end of my bed ;)

(Not a very good pic :o)

what model is it?

what is your viewing distance, about 10ft?

how do you find the quality of sd ?

1080p 32inch seems a bit pointless but does offer future proofing and if you can notice the difference at your viewing distance then fair enough. As far as i understood you needed to be at 40 inch at 1080p to benefit from the increased resolution dependant on viewing distance. Do any major manufacturers have any 1440p screens out yet or intend to in the near future?

Pioneer kuro LX508D

About 9 1/2ft when viewing in bed,and about 6 1/2ft when viewing from my computer desk chair...

SD quality is fine (very good)

good good

my viewing distance in my sitting room is about 9 - 10 ft

I know 1080p will look awesome but I was worried that SD at that distance would look quite poor

hmmmmm I can get a Viera 50" PZ80 for about £980....decisions decisions

at £1k, there is no choice. nothing else will touch it:)

SD can look a little ropey, it depends on the source - dvd's are generally fine, sd broadcats less so, but thats offset but the HD performance of the screen.

thats the only thing that concerns me, what will the SD be like at 9 or 10ft, on my current 32" it looks superb from that distance

I've tried a few stores but they are all showing off their HD capabilities and it seemed too much trouble for them to show me something in SD
