Hi

Im desperately trying to decide which HDTV to buy either the
Sony 40W4000 (LCD) or the Panasonic 42PZ80 (Plasma).

I thought it would be a good idea that everybody who uses
a HDTV with there X360 or ps3 to post what HDTV they own
and why they chose it?

Have had a panny plasma for about 8 months (PX80 42''), incredibly inpressed with the picture quality. PS3/ Blue-ray look amazing. Would really recomend getting a plasma over LCD for that size screen and gaming use

A 50' Samsung Plasma set at 720p with the Xbox360 and it’s a cracking bit of kit, GTA4 and Fifa09 is superb to play on :)

I would lean towards a plasma, they tend to give a better image than LCDs but suffer from image retention so if you game for like 10hrs a day nonstop this can be a problem.

lg37lc3r but there are much better ones out there nowadays. Rather than asking on here I suggest going to AVForums where they know their stuff.

Same here, well actually I went for the PZ80.

Although most of my gaming now is on an Optoma 720P projector onto an 84" screen :)

When i bought mine, there was only £30 difference between them, thats what i was going to buy, although i dont use the differences on the set, other than the better sound.

I went for the cheapest Sony I could find, which at the time was a 32" S2530 (1366x768) for £500. Games, SD and HD media all look fantastic. Apart from the blacks of course. At the price I paid, I won't get good blacks. I'm thoroughly pleased with it though and not being a cinemaphile, all those features you get on V, W and X models just aren't worth the huge price steps. All you need for gaming is any old HDTV with 2 HDMI ports, one fo 360 and one for PS3.

Sony 40W4000 here.

The thought of image retention and/or screenburn was a bit off putting as I am paranoid enough as it when it comes to my electronics without having to worry about accidentally leaving a game paused for to long if I fall asleep or am I watching a program on sky for to long which displays a logo etc.

I know image retention is nowhere near as big of an issue compared to earlier plasmas but everyone is different and I personally did not want to have that worry in the back of mind, no matter how small the risk of it happening is.

The tv has got fantastic reviews all round along with a few members off here like gt_junkie for one who was able to give me his feedback on it which helped an awful lot.

Plus I got a good deal on it when purchased with a ps3 at the same time along with a 5yr guarantee included.

Yep image retention is very common problem on Plasmas, image burn isn’t a big problem like it was on the older sets but it still happens, you do have to be more cautious like not leaving the TV on when you are out or just leaving it on a static image for ages, doesn’t bother me in the slightest and I am 100% glad I choose an Plasma over an LCD, I wouldn’t go back as the image on the Plasmas is far superior I feel.

HannSpree 37" LCD, excelent for the price

I have the same set and its only used for gaming with a Ps3 and a 360.
I got it from Overclockers for £355 and free delivery.
It has no dead pixels and the picture quality with the consoles is very good.
Our main tv is a 42 inch Samsung and to be honest it is hard to tell the difference in picture quality between the two sets.
