Having an Advanced Versus server is basically just an easy difficulty server for the Infected, I'll stick with Normal - works fine for me 
not sure about the releasing tongue either - I guess I'm such a Valve fanboy - I think they've done a good job with balance

played on that server and it's quite chalanging.. i like both difficultys now.. dont have a problem with normal but advanced is more fun at versus.. still a bit to easy for infected.. it needs something in the midle of normal and advanced..
Well, different strokes for different folks I guess. If I wanted to reach safehouses with 90% health and a spare medkit every single time with any half-decent survivor team I'd play on normal. Normal versus, imo, is barely different than regular coop. I was hoping to get feedback about it - it's not necessarily going to stay permanently on advanced.
Aekeron: the team "unscrambler" is a source mod, so you'll need to be running sourcemod/metamod to get it to work. You can get the mod here

So the server is exactly the same as the old Advanced Vs mode? What would you say needs to be changed to make it closer to normal? Slightly less common infected damage? The smoker tongue thing?
Just getting ideas for future modifcations to my own servers

Ok I've got a bit of a custom Versus server running, if anyone fancies testing it out for performance, etc I would appreciate it
It's running ADVANCED Versus difficulty
Smokers can voluntarily release their tongue (melee key)
Players won't get randomly team-switched on map changes
Everything else is as per a normal server.

smoker tongue thing is very usefull and should have been there from the release..
cammon infected demage could be 3 hp a hit... now it's like 8-10 if you get puked you'll always go down... hard to defend your self... 
go to options cant remember which tab enable developers console type open server browser and add it to favourites or type connect and server ip

Most of the variables are cheat-protected so you won't be able to change them without either turning sv_cheats on (which obviously can't be done) or using sourcemod and using sm_cvar to do it.
FWIW regular infected damage on Advanced is 5, it's 2 (or 3?) on Normal and 10 on Expert.

I've got sourcemod running on there already so I'll have a play with it. Think I've already got an sm_cvar on there that's supposed to disable the team changing cack but I'm fairly sure it hasn't worked. Will look into it. Thanks for the tip
(btw: 2 damage for commons on Normal)
I've been trying to talk to you via steam for about 10 minutes but you don't seem to want to talk or your afk.

And don't re-download right away, right click the game, properties 'verity integrity of game cache...'

- please, don't take this the wrong way - for creating the server at all, you deserve kudos
If the infected need the zombies to do more damage, then they're just crap at being the infected team. It happens - sometimes they're good, sometimes they're bad. The only thing I'd say is wrong with Normal difficulty is that occasionally there are too many medkits and sometimes the tank ratio is a little off, but that's how chance and the AI director work - sometimes you get the ****ty end of the stick!
With regards the smoker's tongue, if you make a bad errr....lash, or whatever you want to call it, then that's tough - if a hunter makes a poor pounce and jumps the survivor on the deck instead of the one rescuing them, does he get another chance? No. It's because once you make your play as an infected, that's it, your turn is up, wait for respawn. It encourages players to work as a team when they're the infected - which is what is required to stop survivors reaching the safehouse with 90% health and a medkit.
So, I believe your changes make it easier for the infected which is unnecessary. I saw a perfectly good survivor team not even make it to the radio on the finale on No Mercy a few nights back due to a coordinated infected assault - it was a thing of beauty - I wish I'd recorded it.
That said, I'm away for a few days, so I won't even get a chance to mess about on your server

i was one of the very vocal people when vs difficulty was first locked to normal.
After some time playing with OCUK guys in vs games its really not been as bad as i expected, ive seen so many games where survivors get owned and also ones where they walk straight through the level unharmed.
Even last night we had a blast, on normal a weaker player can be the difference between winning and losing yet on advanced a weaker player made less difference as the zombies did more damage so in balance i think normal is the better option for sure.
The game should be about players abilities and not zombies damage, ive been having such a laugh on versus games lately that i have a sickening feeling that now were adjusted to this that it wont be long till a new patch comes out which throws things on their heads again lol

playing the game on advanced just makes it way to easy for a _good_ team of infected.
You know what, after playing last night in a proper 4v4 Advanced VS on my server I think you're probably right.
You can make it to the end in a decent 4-player survivor team on Advanced Versus, but the amount of concentration it requires is probably too excessive. If you make one mistake you'll probably end up incapacitated, and unless you stack up in a corner and melee a Boomer horde will do a considerable amount of damage. We played through No Mercy and Blood Harvest and there was only about 3 rounds (out of 20 odd) where the team even made it in sight of the safehouse.
It did make it interesting though - instead of the 1000+ point differences between the teams after each round (because one will tend to have more luck than the other - better tank, more medkits, etc) the points difference was less than a few hundred. Remarkably pretty much everyone stayed playing too, possibly as a consequence of the rounds being over quite fast.
As a rule though I disagree with your sentiment. The problem I have with regular Versus is that a coordinated Survivor team will totally dominate an equally coordinated Infected team. If they stack up in corners, never stray more than a few metres from eachother, etc then the best you can hope for as Infected is to get the odd Hunter swipe here and there (because you'll be melee'd away or off someone before you can do any damage), and Smoker is confined to occasional map-dependant ambush attacks. With melee the way it is - on Normal - you can fend off entire hordes without too much issue.
I agree that playing the Infected team should require coordination, however I believe it requires too much of it - at least for public servers. Survivors don't need teammates to aim for them, but you can often be in situations as Infected where you can't do anything unless your Boomer gets a decent puke in.
I guess what I'm trying to say is this - I play Versus predominantly because I enjoy playing as the Infected vs humans, I imagine a lot of people feel the same. Playing in games where 9 times out of 10 a decent Survivor team will reach the safehouse with multiple medkits to spare just results in games that take forever to finish, a lot of ragequitters who get bored or don't like the score deficit, etc. Whilst I agree the Infected team requires coordination, it shouldn't be totally dependant on it to do any damage.
grudas was right I think - it needs to be somewhere in the middle between Normal and Advanced. You can blow through Normal without feeling any real fear, whereas on Advanced if you have your back to the horde or if you get pounced somewhere where it'll take the rest of your team 10+ seconds to get him off - then you're in real trouble.
I'm open to suggestions really..

if you want a real challenge our versus team is getting pretty good at defeating even the best survivors
Aye sorry cocker, was sound asleep by then.
Doesn't mat_queue_mode 0 disable multi core? I am quite reluctant to try that.
To be honest I wanted to reinstall. I extracted a lot of files into my L4D folder when I was routing for models to import into gmod. I forgot where I extracted them to and that bloated my install somewhat, it shouldn't have affected the working L4D files so this shouldn't be the cause of the freezing, but you never know.
We will see when this last 4% downloads is it was worth it.
