Hi all,

Im after upgrading my system, currently i only have 1x512mb and thinking of getting rid of that and getting 4 sticks of 1GB.

I have a ASUS P4C800 E-Deluxe (which has 4 x 1GB slots), My only problem now is what memory to purchase: Ive looked around and the prices range from £35 for 2x1gb Crucial, all the way upto the £80 mark for OCZ.

I use my system for photoshopping, and video work. So far ive had to put up with the system lag when doing these tasks.

Can someone please recommend a good manufacturer/product please? Also ive noticed some of the "value" memory is of corse cheaper than the "advanced" versions, whats the actual difference other than the heat spreaders on the "advanced" versions?

price is not really an issue, i just want something good which will be worthwile and most importantly compatable with my MOBO.

Thanks.

Ive been doing some searching around and found Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2PT - They have rave reviews and seem like really good memory. One pack of 2x 1GB is £60. so two packs will set me back £120.

These modules latency timings are CL2 2-3-3-6 would you say these were really good? I dont have any experience overclocking memory - will these work at this level out of the pack?

Rest of the specs:

Asus P4C800E-Deluxe
P4 3.2 ghz
WD Raptor, WD Caviar
Antec 300w PSU
Thermaltake Xaser III

Thanks.

Dont bother spending so much money on that RAM, its not worth it.

Save up a bit and get a new system, photoshop will be better on a new PC anyway, its not just the RAM.

And video definetely loves a quad core.

Basically, my advice is to save up for a Core i7 or a Phenom II system.

The memory kennysevenfold linked to would probably be the best idea, it really is plowing money into a well dead end system though.

I certainly wouldn't be spending £120 on the cas2 stuff, could probably pick up a cheap 775 board, 2gig of DDR2 and a entry level Core2 chip off MM/Ebay for that.

Exactly

The guy says money is not an issue, thats why i assumed he can buy the new stuff. Still, any of the existing Core 2 Quad based systems will be a lot better compared to what he has.

120 for DDR absed RAM is a waste IMO, the choice is his to make i guess, i wouldnt do it though.

just get some nice cheap DDR. It will definately give you a boost in photoshop work going from 512mb to 2-4gb!
All those timings etc make very little difference. Something like corsair value, crucial etc would suit well ie the value range of a good brand.
Look to pay about £40 for 2*1gb or £80 for 4*1gb.
