Chaps,

I'm looking at getting a new car soon, what would you recommend to suit my criteria...

I do about 300 miles a week, sometimes more, nearly all motorway with the occasional blast round Sussex.
I get my petrol paid for so as long as its not sub 10mpg thats fine :p
Needs to have a fair bit of poke, just a personal preference.

So far I have been looking at A4's (potentially S4's), Omega's, Legacy's, Accord Type R's...

What do you think?

Yeah ideally, should have mentioned I carry stuff in the back sometimes.
Would love a 172 but I have the G40 for that on the weekends.

Motorway driving then go for 200sx :p

It is lovely and comfortable to drive on the motorway, wouldnt swap it for anything else :)

Be brave, find an e38 740i BMW.

Spend £3k on one, keep the other £1k in reserve, just in case, and you'll struggle to find a better motorway mile muncher.

£3k will buy a better e38 7 than an equivalent e39 5 Series imo, hence my choice.

Good job the fuels covered, tyres, servicing etc will be on the high side.

My old e38 was a great Motorway cruiser (and only the 728i) shame I rarely took it on motorways......

Mind doing a bit of self maintenance everynow and again? ZS180.

Sorry Phate I can't resist.

Does the ZS180 require you to wash yourself before driving, or just at specific intervals? :p

Though I own a Octy vRS (aint no lie!) for motorway driving I really hope there's something more comfortable. Or maybe I just need a tv on the dash. I would expect a big bimm to have a better setup/more expensive/advanced springy bits.

Love my ZS 180, but not sure I'd want to do 300 miles a week in it with my lead foot. Might be best looking at something more economical if you're doing nigh on 16,000 a year.

Lookin on pistonheads St petrols where 5.5k upwards. They would be good for that sort of mileage i would say. Mondeos feel solid enough,my mate 2.0 tdci 130 is 7 years old and the only thing to go is a wee hole in the exhuaust on the downpipe and he give it stick all the time. Thats on about 110k aswell.

Surely an Accord type-r would fit the bill perfectly.

Couple going on a well known auction site recently with pretty low miles (50-60k) , fsh, really good condition / 01 plate or so for £4200 ish. Its only recently the very good condition ones have been anywhere near that figure.

Personally I think it sits very nicely at motorway speeds really, but no cruise :(

Fail!

Its just 4k won't buy a very nice ST220, so what are the real genuine alternatives here ?
