Within a couple of years I should imagine it will be illegal to call them it anyway, the way policital correctness is going.

Exactly. The word chav is kind of a 'compressed' insult. Without it, you'd have to spend several minutes outpouring various unpleasant descriptive terms to have the same effect when refering to such individuals.

Just be glad you don't live next door to a chavvy family. We have a family next door to us that are renting out (I mean I dont know how because the mother doesnt even work - but then thats to be expected :rolleyes:

) but they are the most vile people I've ever been next to. The father screams obscene language at the two children and then they spend the rest of the night screaming and playing on the TV as loudly as they can.

Fingers crossed we're moving anyway soon, but it's like a punishment being anywhere near these people.

The OP hints at hand-wringing, left-wing protest against "labels" when in fact, the label as it stands, is entirely appropriate in most contexts in this forum.

Scumbag is a term for a lot of people who aren't you're friend
Uneducated people can still have an IQ above 190 - it's just a test designed for a specific type of brain.
Council House people can still be PHD students.
And you wil still get aggressive film stars and celebs who have all grown up in council houses (as well as chavy dole scroungers)
And there are millions of highly educated degree students and doctors who cannot get a job (and are classed as unemployable, even though they are highly qualified)
And believe it or not, you can still get chavvy Doctors, Solicitors and Bankers.

But then again, it's just a generalisation.

Are they Polish,Irish (or not from the UK) by any chance. Have you spoken to them or asked them why they play the music loud ?

Do you just base it on their clothes, voice, upbringing, Music taste, Girlfriends, Holiday destinations ?????

So what is a chav ? Please tell me......

Chav is an all-encompassing term for those who fit at least one or two of many negative character traits/features/activities. Sure, not all chavs stab people for fun. Sure, not all chavs have sexual intercourse with underage girls. But it works.

If you're going to associate yourself with a certain lifestyle, or group, then don't be offended when you're regarded as one of them.

I dont mind calling people a chav who actually are but what i don't like on this forum is the word chav gets thrown around to describe anything the poster doesn't like.
