As per title really. Its something I am curious about because I got a takeaway last night and the guy who delivered it looked like he was expecting some sort of tip.

I never tip the person who delivers to me because I assume they get paid by the company anyway. So does anybody here tip them?

Yeah I usually tip em something, just thought it was the done thing. I was a delivery driver for a chinese in my younger days and I got tips more often than not.

No, but you're right, they do expect it.

I don't really consider it an individual effort for service, unlike being waitered where the service can actually have an impact depending on the individual. That's normally how I weigh up if I should tip or not.

I think this is common in the USA, but over here even our minimum wage is pretty much a living wage.

I don't tip anyone. I don't get tipped for doing my job, and never have with any job I've had.

Mr Pink had it right.

I'll tip if I get EXCEPTIONAL service (or am with a fille), but that happens maybe thrice a year.

Yup, sometimes. It depends entirely on my mood, whether the guy is friendly or not and whether it has been brought to me quickly and is correct.

But Gilly, isn't it being brought to you "quickly" and "correct" what you're paying for in the first place?

I help my mate out the odd time as he helps run a takeaway. I don't expect tips but have been tipped £8 before. TBH it's pretty good money for 3 hours work. If I was 17 i'd be doing it every friday and saturday.

Often, no. There are drivers and take-aways round here that seems to think you don't care how long it takes to get to you. one time I had a guy turn up 2.5 hours late, after I'd gone to bed, 45 mins after I'd cancelled the order, saying he wanted money from me because he was a new driver.

The service around here is poor, so i tend to look out for people that can do their job, re-use them whenever I fancy something they sell, and give them a bit extra for doing their job better than others around us.

Delivery drivers round here tend to be miserable eastern European that can barely tell you how much it was, they turn up hold the bag in the air and mutter "twelvety pounds plez". So on that basis, no.

I tip allot hence the delivery drivers think im great to deliver too plus im a regular so they always bring my stuff very quick. :)

Okay, that's fair I guess. I've never had a driver like that! 2.5hrs late is comedy...!

This. The tip is usually just the change though, so it varies rather wildly.
