Any Commodore fans should get a copy of On the Edge: the Spectacular Rise and Fall of Commodore by Brian Bagnall. It's a brilliant book which you'll really enjoy.

I think a lot of developers these days need to go buy a second hand C64 and have a look at some of the games for inspiration.
