Well, iv'e had this monitor since tuesday, and I immediately noticed the loud hissing sound coming from it (the kind of hissing you'd get from a 5 year old CRT)
Also noticed an excessive amount of backlight bleeding. Heres a pic to show you (note, the pic isn't modified. It really looks like that)

the bleeding is extremely noticable in games, and its very off-putting. Now for a "gaming monitor" I wouldn't class that as acceptable.

As far as i'm aware, I can't RMA this to ocUK because I bought it from the b-grade section. But do you think this kind of backlight bleeding, and loud hissing noise is acceptable from a 4 month old monitor? Would Acer accept an RMA for it?

Cheers.

Looks fairly excessive to me...I wasn't aware you couldn't RMA b-grade stock but I'd definitely contact OcUK to consider your options.

If you're just received it, can you not return it under the DSR 7-day regulations for a refund?

i could do that i guess, but really, im not interested in a refund... I really like this monitor, and I got it for a bargin price, which is why I doubt I can send it back to ocUK. It's not like they'd replace it with a brand new G24 lol

Also another issue I have, is the viewing angles. Im sitting infront of it now, with my eyes in line with the top half of the monitor, kinda like this:
._____________
|....................|
|--EYE LEVEL--.|

Yet the top quater of the monitor is noticably darker, and the bottom quater is noticably brighter than the rest of the screen. Its extremely anoying in games, as the top quater of the screen is almost black. I can't make out anything.

Heres a recording I took of the noise this monitor makes (please excuse the interference, my microphone sucks)

It starts off with the mic about a meter away from the monitor, then i move it right next to the monitor, and then away again, just so you get an idea of what kind of noise this thing is making

Download

Its almost sounds exactly the same as a graphics card with a worn out capacitor, that squeals.

hi mate.
i got mine on tues and it doesn't have any of the probs your reporting.
sorry yours isn't 100% but i think you'll regret it if you don't get it sorted out.

jobe

i have similar bleeding but not as heavy as the bottom of yours, more like your left edge. unless its really dark its not noticeable in games for me, a little annoying with 'dark scene' movies but it usually gets letterboxed so the top and bottom dont effect the film. But i would say it is the one gripe i do have with this screen.

As for the hissing mines totally silent... i dont think the hissing and bleed are related but that hissing is definitely unacceptable plus the bottom bleed.

i wouldnt like to think your one was b-graded because of these probs.

I can live with the bleed.. but couldnt with that hiss. I hope you can get something sorted out mate. :)

That certainly is not acceptable logue. Talk to someone about it allright. My G24will be arriving soon and all this talk of bleeding has seriously put a bad taste in my mouth.

I think we paid a bit extra than normal for a 24" monitor and as such i would expect a stringent Q&A check from acer before shipping it from their factories. I mean i have a 20" widescreen, bought for 220 euros 2 years ago and it hs no bleed or dead pixels.

Thems the breaks i guess

i got this monitor too. thought i had bad back light bleeding but seeing ur pic mine is now where near as bad. u def need to get that sorted especially if its making noises.

oh well this is a good start. I cant submit a repair request on the website. It asks me to select a dealer name from a list (that doesn't seem to exsist on the page) so I try typing in Overclockers UK, and click next, and it just tells me to select a dealer name again....

Must have been a bad one that was returned, tested then put into b-grade.

Maybe go for a regular retail one next time for security I guess

mine also has noticeable backlight bleed but only when the screen is completly black i havnt noticed it in any games at all so far....

you bought yours from the b-grade section too right Deadude? Im guessing yours doesn't make any noise at all?

no mines brand new i think the backlight bleed its pretty standard but like i said i havnt noticed it once other than when im staring at a completly black screen

Hi, I got this monitor for xmas & today while playing gears of war 2 on it I noticed something smiliar whilst loading a game, the black at the bottom was a lighter shade than the top, it was'nt noticeable ingame for obvious reasons but still annoying. My monitor does'nt hiss tho, hope Acer send you a new monitor asap.

Thats the problem, top of the screen is almost completely black in most games. Take WoW for instance, its extremely hard to make anything out on the minimap, and the green HP bar appears almost black, instead of green.

Heres an example of the problem, i recreated in photoshop:
The first image is a screenshot from WoW, what it normally looks like.
The second image is the same screenshot, showing what it looks like on my monitor. Note the extremely dark area at the top.
