Downgrade Xbox Live?

Hi guys,

Been searching the Xbox.com website for ages and I cannot for the life of me work out how to move from Gold to Silver subscription. I cant remember the last time I played on Xbox live and anyway paying £5 a month isn't cost effective either, so I wish to move back to Silver until I next want to play, when I'll use a prepaid code.

Assuming you have a credit card assigned to the account, you will need to phone them.

You have to phone customer support and have them stop it auto renewing every month.

I dont think its actually possible to do it yourself unless you ring up Microsoft.

UK Xbox Support - Telephone: 0800 587 1102

Press 1 - Xbox 360 support menu
Then press 1 - For Xbox Live including billing enquires menu
Then press 2 - For the cancel or enquire about your account menu
Finally press 1 - To speak to someone about cancelling your Xbox Live subscription

Thats according to some site I Googled

No more annoying than having to cancel any other subscription you probably have. Sky, Setanta, telephone, mobile etc.

No companies make it easy to cancel when people quite happily pay every month as they can't be bothered.

If you sign up via the dashboard, you should be able to cancel via the dashboard.

I signed up online. I've just been able to cancel Eve Online online, I see no reason why XBL is different.

Faff on to change anything with MS, pretty crap really that you have to ring up to remove a credit card from your account for example when you can view and edit it's details online.

Can I just change the credit card details to incorrect ones? An expiry date of 12/2099 or something?

Yep and then they will try to take the money and when it fails your bank will charge you for it.

I'm pretty sure if you change your card details and they try to bill it but it gets refused your account will be suspended until you phone them and sort it out anyway.

If you've got a 48 hour free trial to xbox live gold, use that and it'll automatically downgrade you to silver upon it's expiry. That's what I had to do after numerous attempts by MS to charge a credit card which had expired.

I currently pay via subscription with a CC. What would happen if I bought a pre-pay card (say, an annual one)? Would it stop my sub for a year and continue when my card runs out, or will I have to ring them up, stop my subscription, then add the card?
